20. Book of Life

by Frank L. Preuss

The Book of Life can be compared to a computer or to a human being. A computer stores information and makes it available again. So does the Book of Life and so does the human being. When I write a report about a meeting on my computer and I then store it and make it available again - to me or to others - then I have recorded something that took place in my life. Now I may record the minutes of the meeting and may be some photos of the subject of the meeting and some sound record of one of the speeches and may be some calculations of the financial side or of the technical aspect of the meeting. Now let us assume a computer of the future who can record additional things like smell and taste and feelings of touch and feelings of pressure. And this machine might also be able to record the thoughts of the participants, their intentions and their emotions. It might also record things like joy or anger or aggressiveness or contentment. Let us think of a computer that is quite comprehensive in its ability to record human life, store it and make it available to review. A computer that gives us access to all information we might want to have.

Now a human being is such a comprehensive computer and when computer people need a focus in order to get ideas for the further development of computers then they just have to look at the capabilities of humans and here of course it would help a lot if they would not just look at the physical body but also at the spiritual side of men.

When a computer stores information then it is recorded for further use. And when that information is not required any more then it gets deleted. We hit the delete command. Now this deletion of information stored by a computer is however an illusion. In reality this information is not really deleted. The space this information occupies on the storage medium is just made available for a different use. This space can then be used for new information. Information of a new file may overwrite the information of the deleted file. It may. But it also may not. And even if it overwrites it, it is not really gone - it is still there. Unwanted data cannot really be erased from a hard disk. There is special software to deal with this problem, but also this software does not remove the existing data, it just overwrites it. It may overwrite it with random data so that recovery becomes almost impossible. So by overwriting the data the data do not get erased. They remain there. There are people who still can get to this information. Experts have methods to do that by using sophisticated recovery tools. By analysing the magnetic structure of a hard disk they can recover data. These are data recovery experts and it is a good business to be in. They are also law enforcement agencies and intelligent agencies and also espionage organisations and crooks. So if your computer has overwritten certain data these data are not really gone. It is very difficult to destroy data a computer has put on a storage media. The disposing of computer tapes and hard disks that carry important information has become an expensive business because of this fact.

Data are recorded on these storage media as magnetic patterns. This applies to things like hard drives or magnetic tapes like audio and video cassettes. The technical devices that write and also read these media have certain potency. If a device is used that has a potency that is below the potency of the normal equipment - that is more sensitive - the more sensitive overwritten data can be filtered out. Weaker magnetic patterns can get separated from the stronger ones and then analysed.

Here we have again the situation that weaker electric current is more powerful than high-voltage current; it is more "sensitive." It is more spiritual - more subtle. The weaker info is more important - because it contains secrets. The info that was used to overwrite it is stronger - but basically useless. An intelligent message transferred via the telephone is more powerful than a current of 380,000 Volt. Such a message can simply instruct the generating plant, which generates the heavy current, to shut down and then this high-voltage current is no more.

So let us consider the spiritual side of all this. In 1 Kings 19:12 it says; "And after the earthquake a fire; but the Lord was not in the fire: and after the fire a still small voice."

The Lord was not in the fire, the high-voltage current, but in a very sensitive current, in the still small voice.

The whole material world exists of energy. And this energy is basically of electrical nature. If we go down to an atom then we don't really have any more any material things. It is just energy. Material things are only patterns of energy that vibrate in a certain way. And if we go into even more details then we find just consciousness. This is the real, basic building block. And consciousness is not only the basic building block of our material world, it is the basic building block of all material worlds and also of all other kinds of universes.

And this again shows us that there is no real difference between material aspects of life and spiritual aspects of our existence. Everything, all material things and all spiritual things - in all kinds of universes - are one - are the One. And this also shows that information that is handled by a computer and information that is handled by a human being in his body or in his soul or in his spirit is not really very different. Also our thinking in our mind - and out of our mind - is a form of magnetic pattern.

And now we come to the main aspect of what these magnetic patterns have in common. Both - the magnetic pattern of a computer as well as the magnetic pattern of the products of our mind, our thoughts - cannot really get destroyed. We can't really erase them.

Once they have been generated they will exist forever. And the name the Bible gives for the existence of these magnetic patterns is: The Book of Life.

It is quite important that we are, or become, aware of this. When the importance of this fact dawns on us then we will realize how important it is what kind of thoughts we have - we generate. Once they have been generated they exist and they keep on existing. There is no way to stop this.

To have this knowledge about the undeletable magnetic patterns of the Book of Life has a big incentive. It will help us tremendously to get a grip on our thinking. Whenever our thinking goes in the wrong direction the Holy Spirit will call this to our attention and we will be so glad he did and will resume our song of thanksgiving.

So don't become afraid of thinking wrong thoughts. Just do something about it when you become aware of it. Walk in faith. Trust the Holy Spirit. Don't condemn yourselves. Don't feel guilty. Just use your knowledge intelligently and relax. Walk in peace and joy and happiness.

That there is something like the Book of Life has been known since ages. It is nothing new. But what is new is the fact that we today have an easy way to understand how this thing works. We just had a look at a computer and how it handles and stores information. A computer, a computer of today's kind, is just a very crude example of the Book of Life. If we think of a computer that can store all the things we have discussed above - all information our five senses can absorb and also information like emotions and thoughts, then we come closer to the Book of Life.

And if we add to the computer the internet then we are even better able to understand how this spiritual storage medium works.

Everything that happens, every scene and every event, that has happened, that is happening and that will happen, gets stored in this system. And it can't get deleted. It is there forever.

For us today it is much easier to explain spiritual things.

The start of the use of electricity was an important step in this direction. There was something - which was given the name electricity - nobody really knew what is was but we could make use of it. The telegraph and the telephone helped further. Then came radio and TV. The mobile phone comes already close to telepathy. It can even transmit part of our emotions by showing the other partner not only our voice but also a picture of us. So let us imagine that it also could transmit the scent of our perfume and the taste of the cherry in our mouth and the feel of the wind around us. One of the next steps could be that we use the mobile phone - or some sort of device - to communicate with somebody who "died" 20 years ago.

If we consider these possibilities and also consider that a human being is a communication device that makes all these various communications possible now, then it is much easier to understand spiritual things, easier than it was for people who lived just some few centuries before us. We just look at a mobile phone and can so easily imagine how telepathy works. A person living 200 years ago would consider a mobile phone a highly miraculous machine and would have problems believing that you could speak with such a machine to a person living in another part of the world.

With the internet we have direct access to much information. If we now imagine that all information is available on the internet then we come closer to this Book of Life. Let us imagine that all information, not just the information that is put into computers, gets stored on storage media. And then add to this all information of the past. Just think of all information contained in all the books of the world, present and past, to be available on the internet. This would require quite something. Like immense storage capacity and boundless effort.

Now reality is that all this information is actually available, available now. It is this Book of Life.

When we become conscious of this fact then it will dawn on us that we are not really going in the right direction. We are still too much pursuing the materialistic way and too little the spiritual way. To pursue the materialistic way is not wrong, especially considering that it will more and more bring us to realize that the two ways - the materialistic way and the spiritual way - are converging. But we would advance much quicker, especially in our personal lives, if we would advance spiritually.

A good example is space travel. What about just sending our mind there? Just sending our mind to a distant planet and let the mind be accompanied by the soul body. Or let us think of doing some investigation of one of our physical organs or blood vessels. Instead of sending a mechanical device there let us send our mind there and investigate and find out what the physical situation is and in addition also what the spiritual cause of the trouble is. And then send the mind to do some mending.

So if we all are advanced spiritually then we hardly would need mechanical means like computers. But that is life in the future. Today we still need such things, especially because we have to communicate with people who are on different levels.

What is the main thing of all our discussions up to now? It is the fact that all information is available now. We do not have to wait until everything is stored on computers and made accessible via the internet, we have it now.

Let us assume a future situation where computers record all daily events. I go to the market and everything is videotaped and this includes sight, sound, touch, taste and smell. I get a packet of passion fruit, grenadilla, and the purchase is recorded including the buyer and the seller, the financial details, the emotions, the time, the weather, the market situation, the atmosphere of the market and the people. I then go home and unpack the fruit and touch it with my fingers and all the details like smoothness and the curvature and the hardness of the shell are picked up by the computer and get monitored and stored. I then cut the fruit open and this sound gets recorded and there is the fragrance that my nose perceives as the internals are getting exposed. I then eat this fruit, fragrant and intense with a distinctive, sweet taste. All these details will not only be recorded but they will also be available for reproduction at any time. This means that the machine will not only perceive the details but will also be able to make them again perceptible to me. The machine will be able to reproduce what it has absorbed without such a fruit being present.

So the Book of Life is something that is ever changing and growing. It constantly incorporates every detail and nuance of experience. And this it does for every form of consciousness in this world and in all others as well. Whatever gets perceived, explored, transmitted, experienced, thought, said, is there. And all this information is also available to us. The Book of Life has infinite powers of perception. It is a cosmic mind. It is the only mind that exists. Our mind is just part of it. There is only one mind. But we have the mind of Christ.

Let us consider one aspect of this availability of information in order to see its impact. A medium who helps bereaved people to contact a deceased relative or friend, might like to talk of survival evidence. When such a contact between the two people occurs, between a living person and a "dead" person, and when then information is given by the "dead" person that is known to these two persons only, then it is claimed that this is prove of survival; prove that the "dead" person is not really dead but alive; that the "dead" person, who is not anymore alive on the physical plane, is still alive on another plane; that his soul has survived. But if we consider that all information is available to everybody, to everybody who has access to this Book of Life, then this survival evidence explanation does not seem to be too good. Basically everybody involved can bring this information to daylight. It could be the medium, the client of the medium, or both together, it could be any being in the spiritual world that shows an interest in the meeting and that is present, and it could be actually the deceased. So such a happening does not really prove too much; but when the seeker is brought to a change of outlook on life, that he starts to believe that there is more than just the physical world, then it is a positive thing that happened. The seeker accepted the information he received as evidence of survival, but he - and may be the medium as well - did this due to their ignorance of these possibilities. Somebody - on this plane or on any other plane - could have read the mind of the seeker or read from the records of the Book of Life.

When we know about these records and their availability then it becomes easier to understand happenings that seem to be miraculous and unexplainable.

Think about something like clairvoyance. It is just a matter to get access to this Book of Life. Or take the seemingly miraculous way birds flying from the northern hemisphere to the southern and back again every year and knowing and finding their way.

How do we get access to this information?

There are three things that are useful here. The first one is that we must have the right attitude; the second is we must have faith and the third one is that we must be led by the spirit. Those who are led by the spirit are the sons of God.

For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God. Romans 8:14.

We have to work on this. Let us use especially the small circumstances in life to practice this. If we need some information then let us ask the Holy Spirit to give it to us. If we have a problem then let us turn it over to him. And we should never forget that everything works for good.

And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose. Romans 8:28.

So we just always maintain an attitude of peace and have the song of thanksgiving in our heart.

If the gifts of the spirit are working in our lives then we should be really grateful and if these can be used to help others then it is even better.

And we must believe. Without faith it is impossible to please God.

But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him. Hebrew 11:6.

And the key to faith is right speaking. And that we can achieve by right thinking and by constantly measuring our - and other's - faith.

So it is quite easy to get information from the Book of Life. I simply make that request in my heart. I simply call up this information by thinking of it and intending to have it. And then I relax and carry on with my normal business. And when it comes along then I recognize it as such and resume my song of thanksgiving.

And when I recognize it as such then it is important to also recognize and accept and believe that it came because I requested this to happen, and not to believe that it would have come in any case.

It might help a lot if I keep a logbook. I should write down these little incidences, requesting info and receiving info. It would help a lot to grow my faith muscles.

Now let us come back to the fact that information can't really be erased - that nothing that happens is ever lost.

The spiritual principle behind this we find in Matthew 10:26:

Fear them not therefore: for there is nothing covered, that shall not be revealed; and Hid, that shall not be known.

Or in Luke 8:17:

For nothing is secret, that shall not be made manifest; neither any thing hid, that shall not be known and become abroad.

Or in Luke 12:2:

For there is nothing covered, that shall not be revealed; neither hid, that shall not be known.

A big business in the information technology industry is to keep information secret. And we have seen already that this is difficult to achieve. It is difficult to erase information. And to keep information confidential while it is transferred is also a problem. We often hear how crooks try to break into this stream of information in order to come to easy money.

Now there is a way to transfer information without third parties getting access to it. And that is thought transfer. Telepathy. But this not having access to thoughts that are transferred from one person to another - of a third person not having access to it - applies only to persons that operate in the material world. In the spiritual world there are no secrets.

But in the physical world it is big business to provide means of keeping secrets. For example people want their emails to remain private. The need for privacy creates data hiding techniques and encryption methods. People want that the details of their bank account remain a matter between them and the bank and that they are not accessible to others.

But what kind of life will we live in the future - in a future where the spiritual is more prevalent than it is now?

We will have a more open society. The need to hide information will be less. The need to protect oneself against crooks will be less. The end of such a development will be a situation that we will find when we step out of our physical body and live in the hereafter. There will be no possibility to hide information. Every thought will be displayed and will be recognizable immediately.

So we should not put our efforts into improving encryption methods and hiding techniques and surveillance efforts but into advancing spiritually.

The development of the technical side we should leave to worldly people and turn our attention to the development of our spiritual activities. But this does not mean that we should be ignorant of the technical side. Jesus tells us to be wise.

Behold, I send you forth as sheep in the midst of wolves: be ye therefore wise as serpents, and harmless (or, simple) as doves. Matthew 10:16.

And in the following verses he goes into details about these wolves.

When you read these following verses, Matthew 10:17-42, then notice how often reference is made - indirectly - to our Book of Life.

But beware of men: for they will deliver you up to the councils, and they will scourge you in their synagogues; And ye shall be brought before governors and kings for my sake, for a testimony against them and the Gentiles. But when they deliver you up, take no thought how or what ye shall speak: for it shall be given you in that same hour what ye shall speak. For it is not ye that speak, but the Spirit of your Father which speaketh in you. And the brother shall deliver up the brother to death, and the father the child: and the children shall rise up against their parents, and cause them to be put to death. And ye shall be hated of all men for my name’s sake: but he that endureth to the end shall be saved. But when they persecute you in this city, flee ye into another: for verily I say unto you, Ye shall not have gone over the cities of Israel, till the Son of man be come. The disciple is not above his master, nor the servant above his lord. It is enough for the disciple that he be as his master, and the servant as his lord. If they have called the master of the house Beelzebub, how much more shall they call them of his household? Fear them not therefore: for there is nothing covered, that shall not be revealed; and hid, that shall not be known. What I tell you in darkness, that speak ye in light: and what ye hear in the ear, that preach ye upon the housetops. And fear not them which kill the body, but are not able to kill the soul: but rather fear him which is able to destroy both soul and body in hell. Are not two sparrows sold for a farthing (farthing: it is in value one and a half cents; in the original, the tenth part of the Roman penny)? and one of them shall not fall on the ground without your Father. But the very hairs of your head are all numbered. Fear ye not therefore, ye are of more value than many sparrows. Whosoever therefore shall confess me before men, him will I confess also before my Father which is in heaven. But whosoever shall deny me before men, him will I also deny before my Father which is in heaven. Think not that I am come to send peace on earth: I came not to send peace, but a sword. For I am come to set a man at variance against his father, and the daughter against her mother, and the daughter in law against her mother in law. And a man’s foes shall be they of his own household. He that loveth father or mother more than me is not worthy of me: and he that loveth son or daughter more than me is not worthy of me. And he that taketh not his cross, and followeth after me, is not worthy of me. He that findeth his life shall lose it: and he that loseth his life for my sake shall find it. He that receiveth you receiveth me, and he that receiveth me receiveth him that sent me. He that receiveth a prophet in the name of a prophet shall receive a prophet’s reward; and he that receiveth a righteous man in the name of a righteous man shall receive a righteous man’s reward. And whosoever shall give to drink unto one of these little ones a cup of cold water only in the name of a disciple, verily I say unto you, he shall in no wise lose his reward. Matthew 10:17-42.

Now one of the reasons why I quote here all these verses is the content of verse 26:

Fear them not therefore: for there is nothing covered, that shall not be revealed; and hid, that shall not be known.

Here Jesus confirms the existence of the Book of Life and gives us some details. The fact that information can't get erased will be to our advantage. Our walking in the light will come clearly to the fore and their walking in darkness will be clearly exposed. No information can get covered. Everything shall be revealed. Everything shall be known.

Jesus tells us to be wise. And he gives us the reason. The reason is that we are sent in the midst of wolves. And we are admonished to beware of these wolves because they will deliver us to worldly authorities and will scourge us in their churches:

But beware of men: for they will deliver you up to the councils, and they will scourge you in their synagogues. Matthew 10:17.

And ye shall be brought before governors and kings for my sake, for a testimony against them and the Gentiles. Matthew 10:18.

So if a Christian gets captured it might have the purpose of getting the message to an important person, like Jesus talking to Caiaphas, the high priest, and to Pontius Pilate, the governor, and Jesus seeing Herod, the king. And Paul is another example. He spoke to Sergius Paulus, the deputy of the country, at Paphos on Cyprus (Acts 13:7). Jesus said of Paul that he would bare his name before kings (Acts 9:15) and Paul did. In Acts 22 to 26 we see that Paul spoke to the chief captain in Jerusalem, Claudius Lysias, to the chief priests and all their council, to the high priest Ananias, to the governor Felix, and to Felix' successor, Porcius Festus, and to Agrippa, the king. He was brought before governors and kings.

But when they deliver you up, take no thought how or what ye shall speak: for it shall be given you in that same hour what ye shall speak. For it is not ye that speak, but the Spirit of your Father which speaketh in you. Matthew 10:19-20.

It is the spirit of our Father that will speak. And this spirit has got complete access to the Book of Life and knows therefore all the circumstances of the people we will stand before. And we will then touch exactly that spot in their lives that needs to be addressed. We will speak things that will fulfil their need at that present moment. We will be a testimony against them.

But when they persecute you in this city, flee ye into another (Matthew 10:23).

Because we have got access to the Book of Life we will know when the persecution starts. We will know before they come to get us. Our information system, the Book of Life, is far superior to all worldly systems of communication and information.

We will have the advantage of this system and we have the advantage of being wise.

Behold, I send you forth as sheep in the midst of wolves: be ye therefore wise as serpents, and harmless as doves. Matthew 10:16.

We will be wise as serpents. Study the movements of Jesus; how he was wise in what moves he made and how he kept people informed - or not informed - about them.

He was very familiar with the use he made of the information contained in the Book of Life. Read stories about Jesus and then many seeming supernatural happenings will seem more natural when we keep in mind that he permanently had access to this Book of Life.

When studying how to be wise as serpents we should also turn to the movements and actions of David. His life is an excellent example of the application of practical wisdom - wisdom to handle the religious persecutors.

Let us have a look at some examples:

1 Samuel 21:1-2:

Then came David to Nob to Ahimelech the priest: and Ahimelech was afraid at the meeting of David, and said unto him, Why art thou alone, and no man with thee? And David said unto Ahimelech the priest; The king hath commanded me a business, and hath said unto me, Let no man know any thing of the business whereabout I send thee, and what I have commanded thee: and I have appointed my servant to such and such a place.

1 Samuel 21:12-15:

And David laid up these words in his heart, and was sore afraid of Achish the king of Gath. And he changed his behavior before them, and feigned himself mad in their hands, and scrabbled on the doors of the gate, and let his spittle fall down upon his beard. Then said Achish unto his servants, Lo, ye see the man is mad: wherefore then have ye brought him to me? Have I need of mad men, that ye have brought this fellow to play the mad man in my presence? shall this fellow come into my house?

In 1 Samuel 27 we read about a report that David was living in the Philistine territory and attacking the enemies of Judah but telling a king of the Philistines that he attacked Judah.

What is the principle behind this? We find it Psalm 18:26:

With the pure thou wilt shew thyself pure; and with the froward thou wilt shew thyself froward.

The Lord will show himself shrewd to the crooked, hostile with the devious, crafty to those who are wicked, he will show himself contrary with the perverse. God will be difficult to deal with when people are set against him.

So we should study how to be wise as a serpent and to act accordingly in certain situations.

There is another guideline. Let us look at Acts 5:29.

Then Peter and the other apostles answered and said, We ought to obey God rather than men.

The apostles were persecuted by the authorities, people who had evil intents and were evil. And the apostles did not obey them; they did exactly the opposite to what they were told. They had received strict orders not to teach about Jesus, but they refused to obey.

My father was a soldier and the war came to an end and his unit was supposed to be handed over to the victorious side. The day before the handover my father went to the office and asked to be discharged from the army and the response was utter indignation at such a request and it was refused. So my father went out of the office, organized some civilian clothes and started on his way to find his family. So he refused to obey the orders to hand himself over to the other side. Now some years later he met a man from that unit who told him what happened to them. They all were handed over to the victors, an army of a democracy, who in turn handed them over to the army of another country, which was a dictatorship, an army that they had really fought against, and there they received a treatment that resulted in years of serfdom and much suffering and the death of most of them. Only very few survived, one of them was this man my father met. Now the system that caused this suffering was an absolutely evil system, a dictatorship that suppressed all its people and in addition tried to conquer the rest of the world in order to treat them as badly or worse as their own people. And the system that forced my father to be a soldier was in the same range, but it was now defeated and had come to an end. So my father listened to his inner man and did what was naturally for him to survive and disobeyed instructions from an evil organisation. Now such a thing of course required courage, people who lacked this took the road that seemed at that moment the easiest, but they actually chose a road of suffering and death. Some people have no courage to run their own life; they are so used to obey the commands of a totalitarian regime that they become slaves and lose their own will. Even after that system had been defeated and actually did not exist anymore, people were still hypnotized by it and by its representatives. It is also a question of recognizing an evil system and of making a conscious decision to resist it - of not becoming part of its thought system. And when this has been achieved then the next step is to use the whole situation to practise overcoming - to move through challenging events. Overcoming fears, building stamina, building character, confidence.

My mother was in a similar situation that required courage. The evil system we lived in did not allow people to move out of the zone of fighting; the motto was that every square metre of soil had to be defended and was not allowed to be given up, also not by the civilians. Disobedience was punished with death. The two probably most vicious and biggest armies in the history of men were fighting each other and we were right in between. On a Sunday my mother decided to take us all and move out of that area. When she did this, she was very much aware of the fact that she risked to be hanged by the officials of the system we lived in, but she had, as well as my father had, in all the years of this dictatorship practised moral resistance against people who acted in evil ways. So taking risks was normal practice. When these officials then sentenced my mother to death by order of court martial she accused these "judges" of doing a bad job because, she said, they should have sentenced all the people with her also to death and not just her, because they had committed the same crime as she had. These other people were her mother - my grandmother - and us children. She also told them that they should rather fight the enemy and therefore help to protect the civilians that tried to escape and not fight their own people and hinder them to get out of the war zone. These "judges," hearing the bold words of my mother, lost that little courage they still had and gave up and told my mother to just get on with the move away from the fighting. Now just the other day, decades after these happenings, I received a report written about a man who also did not obey the orders of the officials of that time. But he did not go as far as my mother went. He was the manager of a large agricultural business in our area and when the fighting came closer he started to make preparation for all the people to move out of that area. The report says, that the slightest thought of moving was officially prohibited. So he did it in secret. This however did not remain a secret. The well-organized dictatorship found out about it. He was ordered to appear at the local government office and there he received the order to cancel all preparations. If he would not obey he was threatened with execution by firing squad. This man also did not obey this order. The welfare of the many people under his leadership was more important for him than his life. He was a man of courage. Now this report says that the order for the civilians to move out of that area, the area that was also our area, came on Sunday, commanding them to start their exit the next morning at eight o'clock. Now this was Monday morning eight o'clock. This report also states that this date was much too late. They managed to leave on Monday four o'clock in the afternoon. We had left a day earlier, on Sunday, because my mother disobeyed the order not to move. This man and his whole group only disobeyed the order not to do any preparation work, but they obeyed the order to stay put and only moved after they had got permission. We started on Sunday and they started on Monday, a day later. Now this one day made quite a difference.

We moved straight in the direction of safety and freedom. But they could not do this anymore, they had been encircled. So they had to move in the direction of the sea and there they were trapped. Cold weather started and the water started to freeze over and people started to use the sheet of ice that formed on the surface of the water as a route of escape, but many sank into the freezing cold water and drowned or froze to death. Now this man and his group had the strength to withstand this temptation and they waited until the sheet of ice was strong enough to carry them. People of their group died but most of them succeeded and arrived at the other side of the bay and escaped.

Other people, especially those that had made no preparations, started to move away even later or never moved. Many of these were captured and many got killed by the invading forces. And the ones that got killed were considered by the survivors as being lucky, because their own fate was worse. The suffering was terrible and those that survived torture, rape and hunger were looking towards decades of enslavement.

So I was lucky. The fact that my mother was led by the spirit caused me to come out of this terrible time without any suffering. I never got hungry, we were never captured, nobody got killed, nor injured, no part of my body ever got frostbite. At one day of our escape and after a long march we found rest on a market place and planned to spend at least a day of rest there. But suddenly my mother told everybody to get ready and to start moving again. She met much opposition, but she prevailed and people grudgingly started to move again - they knew my mother. A couple of hours later that day, when we had put several kilometres of distance between us and that place, we got the report that that market place where we had been, had been the target of a military attack by the enemy and artillery and aircraft had caused a great mess there and many had died or were injured. And nothing had happened to us.

Why not? Because my mother had access to the Book of Life. She had access, unconsciously, to information about the future. And not only that, she also acted on this information. She did something about it.

In that conflict millions got killed. And what happened to me?

A thousand shall fall at thy side, and ten thousand at thy right hand; but it shall not come nigh thee. Psalm 91:7.

It never came near me. The closest I ever came to some military action was a day when there was a terrific noise in the air and the heaven was covered with aeroplanes. But that was all. I never even saw a dead person.

The Lord saved me from all trouble.

So keep in mind the scripture that says, "We ought to obey God rather than men."

In Acts 4:19 a similar statement is found: But Peter and John answered and said unto them, Whether it be right in the sight of God to hearken unto you more than unto God, judge ye.

The more we are yielding to the leading of the spirit the more we will hearken unto God and hear his voice and receive information from the Book of Life.

My mother was led by the spirit. A by-product of this was that she practised detachment. Now how would I know that? I was just a child and how would I be able to make a judgement of such a spiritual attitude? I know because my mother kept a diary. And this is available today. In this time of high stress, a time of persecution from our own people and brutal attack from the enemy side, and that in combination with severe weather like strong frost and blizzards and chaotic road conditions, roads overcrowded with military movements and refugees, a time of planning escape routes all the time and organizing the basics for life like food, and if possible accommodation, my mother made time available every evening to sit down and write down the events of the day. She played the role of an observer. She was detached. She was definitely not playing the role of the victim. She was able to step back and put a distance between herself and what was happening. She was like a lioness fighting for her offspring and that without losing her cool.

When I was young I often thought that our family should have gone to America when the dictators took over our country. My father had lived in America and it would have been easy for him to just go back there and take us with him. We then would not only have avoided living in a totalitarian state, but we also would have avoided war and destruction and loss of property. But what is life all about? Learning to grow - grow spiritually - and to use life's happenings for this purpose. My parents had the opportunity, by remaining in that country, to test their courage in the face of a deadly opposition to them from the organization that had gained power over the people, and then to overcome all the problems resulting from war and fighting and destruction. And I myself got so much to observe and experience in the first few years after becoming conscious of what was going on around me that I today would never want to miss it. I could have grown up in America and lived in a prosperous surrounding and in peace and far away from terror regimes and warfare. Instead I grew up with war all around me. I thought that war was normal life. When the war ended and when then also later the country started to prosper and not only had peace but also freedom and wellbeing, I really enjoyed it and thought that it was a great idea. I thought that it was a good idea - an idea worth to fight for.

So our aim is to get more and more into the habit to be led by the spirit. If we talk about faith - and levels of faith - then we know that the highest level is that of a victorious living Christian who speaks the word of faith out of his mouth and that this spoken word will accomplish what it says. Things are going to happen. He calls things that are not as though they were. But there are lower levels. There is the level of great faith. People who believe in the word of God have great faith. They believe that things will happen when another believer speaks - or prays - that then things are going to change. And then there is the third level: when a person makes use of a point of contact to get faith activated. They might want another person to lay hands on them or they might want that the shadow of a very "faithful" person falls on them and then they believe that they will get healed.

It is similar in being led by the spirit. Also there exists what we have called a point of contact. Let us have a look at an example.

There exists a "science" of "radionics."

Now I have put here the word science in inverted commas. For most natural scientists this science of radionics is not really a science. For spiritual scientists it should however be a real branch of science. A real scientist will not exclude something from science just because he does not know how it works and because the so-called scientists look down on it. A person who calls himself a scientist but rejects the testimony of a fellow human being can't really be called a scientist.

Now what happens when somebody is dowsing with a divining rod or with a pendulum? He forms a question in his mind and keeps his mind focussed on this subject. His subconscious taps the Book of Life and gives the information found there to the body. The body expresses this by using the tool the person has in his hand. The tool, a divining rod or a pendulum, moves and so reveals the information.

It is always good to keep some very general principles in mind. One of these is Oneness. Everything is just one. We are all just part of this One. We can't really separate God from his creation. We - and all parts of us - and everything else is part of God. We are God. So when our body does something, consciously or unconsciously, then it does not matter too much if it is just our body that makes this movement or the body of somebody else as well or both or all of them. So the movement of a divining rod may be caused by our body, by some unconscious muscle action, or by ectoplasm that extrudes from our body, from our life body, or by means of some other spiritual being that is nearby or helping us or taking an interest in our activities. We are never alone. A person that remains thankful will always have plenty of helpers.

An advanced dowser might not even use a tool in his hand; he might just use his hand alone, without having anything in it. He is more sensitive. If he would grow in his sensitivity then he would also not have to use his hand anymore. He would just use his mind. He would be led by the spirit.

So being led by the spirit is the most advanced method. And it is the simplest method. It does not require any tools, any points of contact.

Let us use a second example. Let us look at a wise woman, a woman - or a man - who has specialized in spiritual things. Sometimes such a person is called a sangoma. One of the most common methods a sangoma uses to obtain information is to throw bones. In a bag she has got a number of little articles consisting of bones and other objects that have a special meaning for her, that have a special history of their own, that she has obtained under circumstances that are special to her or that have been given to her by certain people. Every one of these articles is related to a definite aspect of life. One might indicate finances; another one may be health, another marriage or a marriage partner and so forth. If now an enquirer comes to her she will throw the bones for him and then tell him about his situation. She will not question the person before she does this and the person seeking advice will not tell her anything because he will test the sangoma by checking if she gives him correct information. If she assesses the circumstances correctly then he will assume that the cure she proposes will also be correct. The sangoma - consciously or unconsciously - taps into the information pool of the Book of Life. Her unconscious mind then transmits this information to her body, especially into her hands and the movements of her hands; her fingers and her wrist then direct the fall of all the different little articles and how they land on the floor and how they relate to each other and to the location of the enquirer. She then reads all this and then explains more or less directly what the situation is and what can or should be done. If she is a wise person she might not explain certain things directly because she will know about the power of suggestion.

As there is consciousness in everything, the little items of her "bones" may also move on their own influence. Also spirit beings may be present and may influence the outcome of the throw.

The more movement is involved the more a spiritual being present can influence this movement. The longer the run of a thrown die is the more such a being has a chance to direct it. The more "spiritual" something is the more such influence can occur. Electricity and electromagnetic things in our lives are especially easy to be affected. That is why some people hear something on a tape that never recorded anything or see something on the computer screen that is "supernatural."

The sangoma's subconscious mind directs the muscles of her body and they - unconsciously - direct the movement of the "bones." The dowser's rod will twist in his hands when he comes to a spot where there is what he is looking for. Something inside him reacts to something. Now the dowser may assume that the reaction is due to the nearness to the object of his search. He might think that this thing causes the reaction of his dowsing rod or that his muscles react to this thing. But this idea does not work when the dowser now does not go to the place where he wants to find something but instead just uses a drawing of that place, a map of that area, or a sketch of the location. If he now uses the rod, or may be even better a pendulum, then the whole thing also works. He just may have the architect's drawing of the ground floor of a home of a client in front of him and he lets his pendulum move over this drawing and he finds what he is looking for, but the actual physical home is in a completely other part of the world. It is the mind that shows him. And his mind indicates the place by moving the pendulum at the right moment - just then when the pendulum is in the right position some mind force uses muscles of his body to cause the pendulum to rotate or give some indication.

So what is actually happening? The mind requires some information. The information is found in the Book of Life. In Malachi 3:16 it is called the scroll of remembrance. This information has now to be made known and indicated in the physical world - it has to be remembered. The mind is the creative force. It creates the circumstances that make this information known and uses for this purpose various means of indication. These might be the muscles of the body operated by the subconscious, they might be the energy of the energy body, the life body, using something like ectoplasm, emitted by the person or the persons present, they might be the consciousness inherent in the various physical devices, they might be spiritual beings around us whom we do not see. But the real agent doing, or causing it is the mind.

If I am searching for my keys in my home I could use such a method as a point of contact, as an indirect method, to get into contact with the information from the Book of Life. The Book of Life knows where the keys are and now a way has to be found to make this information known in physical terms. I could use the floor plan of my home and a pendulum and start the search. When the pendulum reacts then I have an indication where they are. I also could use the pendulum directly and move around the home with this thing in my hand and wait for it to move. By the move of the pendulum I then would be told where the spot is where the keys are located.

What would be the direct method? I would want to use the keys and do not find them at the usual place and start searching and give up after some time and ask the Holy Spirit to give me the information and then I would relax and do something else. And then when my mind is completely somewhere else I would simply "fall" over the keys. I might move something and underneath the thing are the keys.

It is a much more elegant method and a method that is of much less effort than a method where I use a point of contact. It is a method that works for nearly everything. It is simple and straightforward. I don't have to use any gadgets or implements. I just turn inward and form my request and then resume my song of thanksgiving. I am living by faith and I am led by the spirit.

And this contemplation here of how the Book of Life works just strengthens my faith in God and his ways.

Suddenly the keys are just in front of me. I have been directed to move myself and to move things and to undertake actions that simply guided me to the keys. My mind created situations that would lead me to them. It was a very natural thing to happen. Or I suddenly would simply remember where I last used the keys, which lock I opened and in which I left them.

Now what happens when somebody comes to me and asks me to pray for him in order to solve a problem? I could use a pendulum as an indirect means. I could use some charts and work out what the problem is and what the remedy might be. If it is a sickness, then I could find out what it is exactly and what the right medication for this specific person would be. But I wouldn't do it. I would use the direct method. I would simply be relaxed and open to the leading of the spirit and trust what comes to my mind is originated by the spirit. I might pray for this person and with this person, but that would be more in order to give him a point of contact and for him to activate his faith. And may be for me to get even better into the spirit and to create an atmosphere of expectancy and thanksgiving. I might lay hands on this person and so make it easier to let energy flow and get released. It is actually very simple and hardly any physical actions and gadgets have to get used.

So when people use something like a divining rod or a pendulum or if they throw bones then this might be appropriate for their level of faith - both, the faith of the sangoma and also the faith of her client. We should not depreciate such things. Wherever some help is given to suffering people we should be thankful and glad that there are people who do this kind of work. We should not be against such things because sometimes these things are used for negative purposes. The negative side of it will always be there and people want to do things for selfish motives. But we never should generally be against spiritual things. We leave this to religious people who have to fear that the Holy Spirit will render them superfluous.

We can also say that the indirect means of getting information, using a point of contact, is more a thing of the Old Testament. Like divining for water with a rod as described in Exodus 17:1-7:

And all the congregation of the children of Israel journeyed from the wilderness of Sin, after their journeys, according to the commandment of the Lord, and pitched in Rephidim: and there was no water for the people to drink. Wherefore the people did chide with Moses, and said, Give us water that we may drink. And Moses said unto them, Why chide ye with me? wherefore do ye tempt the Lord? And the people thirsted there for water; and the people murmured against Moses, and said, Wherefore is this that thou hast brought us up out of Egypt, to kill us and our children and our cattle with thirst? And Moses cried unto the Lord, saying, What shall I do unto this people? they be almost ready to stone me. And the Lord said unto Moses, Go on before the people, and take with thee of the elders of Israel; and thy rod, wherewith thou smotest the river, take in thine hand, and go. Behold, I will stand before thee there upon the rock in Horeb; and thou shalt smite the rock, and there shall come water out of it, that the people may drink. And Moses did so in the sight of the elders of Israel. And he called the name of the place Massah (that is, Temptation), and Meribah, because of the chiding of the children of Israel, and because they tempted the Lord, saying, Is the Lord among us, or not?

So Moses used his rod as a divining rod and he found water.

Another example from the Old Testament is the place at 1 Samuel 28:6:

And when Saul enquired of the Lord, the Lord answered him not, neither by dreams, nor by Urim, nor by prophets.

So we can get information for example by dreams, or by Urim, or by prophets. It is quite all right to go this way. But the better, quicker and simpler way is the direct way, to be led by the spirit.

The children of Israel were wandering in the dessert and they were growing in faith. When they crossed the Jordan they had become victorious living believers and had stopped complaining and wanting. They could move without much hindrance and had become unstoppable. They were led by the spirit.

They had become so powerful, especially their leader Joshua, that they could just speak the word and things began to happen. Just because Joshua wanted to defeat the enemy properly and needed some more daylight hours to do this he stopped the world. He caused the sun and the moon to stop moving - the earth to stop rotating.

Joshua 10:12-13:

Then spake Joshua to the Lord in the day when the Lord delivered up the Amorites before the children of Israel, and he said in the sight of Israel, Sun, stand thou still upon Gibeon; and thou, Moon, in the valley of Ajalon. And the sun stood still, and the moon stayed, until the people had avenged themselves upon their enemies. Is not this written in the book of Jasher? So the sun stood still in the midst of heaven, and hasted not to go down about a whole day.

He spoke the word but they also did something - put in some real effort, chased the enemy. So it was a combination of God helping them by stopping the world and throwing down big hailstones and by them exerting physical effort of fighting.

We just had the word Urim, it was used in 1 Samuel 28:6. In 1 Samuel 14:41 we read, "Therefore Saul said unto the Lord God of Israel, Give a perfect lot. And Saul and Jonathan were taken: but the people escaped.

Now when we read the same verse, 1 Samuel 14:41, in the New International Version then we find this:

Then Saul prayed to the Lord, the God of Israel, "Give me the right answer." And Jonathan and Saul were taken by lot, and the men were cleared.

And then there is a footnote to this verse which says:

Hebrew; Septuagint "Why have you not answered your servant today? If the fault is in me or my son Jonathan, respond with Urim, but if the men of Israel are at fault, respond with Thummim."

So this footnote says that the text of the first sentence of verse 41 was translated from the Hebrew original; but that there is a more detailed and different description to be found in the Septuagint. The Septuagint is a Greek version of the Old Testament. And the Septuagint speaks of the Urim and the Thummim.

From this information we can deduce that casting the lot and using the Urim and the Thummim is the same. These things seem to be being used when a choice between two possibilities was available or possible. It seems to have given answers where one could have used a coin. When a decision is wanted who of two people, or of two groups of people, is to be taken, then one could use a coin and decide in accordance with the fall of the coin.

In Joshua 18:10 we read:

And Joshua cast lots for them in Shiloh before the Lord: and there Joshua divided the land unto the children of Israel according to their divisions.

The casting of lots was done before the Lord. So the right spiritual position of the people who do the casting is necessary when one wants to get results that really come from God. Just casting lots or throwing a coin, without practising the presents of the Lord will not do.

In Numbers 27 verse 21 we read, "And he (Joshua) shall stand before Eleazar the priest, who shall ask counsel for him after the judgment of Urim before the Lord;" and here it is even more clear that this has to be done in the spirit that comes from God. The priest indicates that the higher self is recognized, and that it is not the lower self, the ego, that is questioned. And also here it is said that it was done before the Lord. And in the example from 1 Samuel 14:41 that we used above, it is stated that Saul directly approached God: he prayed for an answer from him.

The lot is cast into the lap; but the whole disposing thereof is of the Lord. Proverbs 16:33.

So if we really want that it is of the Lord, then the right attitude is important - is absolutely necessary. The presence of God has to be practised.

A good example where a decision between two people is requested can be found in Acts 1:26:

And they gave forth their lots; and the lot fell upon Matthias; and he was numbered with the eleven apostles.

So two persons were available, Joseph called Barsabas, who was surnamed Justus, and Matthias. And Matthias was then chosen.

This was done just before the outpouring of the Holy Spirit at Pentecost. From then on the casting of lots was not anymore practised or at least not anymore mentioned in the New Testament. It was not necessary. The leading of the spirit replaced it.

So when we consider things like dowsing or the use of the pendulum or throwing of coins then they are rather Old Testament practices. We can leave them for people who are at a certain stage of development. The use of such points of contact however reminds us of the existence of the Book of Life.

So let us come back to the fact that the elimination of data is not possible or nearly impossible when we consider computers.

When we consider the spiritual side of life then a rule can be found in Matthew 24:35.

Heaven and earth shall pass away, but my words shall not pass away.

And with computers it is not much different.

When a computer worker 'deletes' a file, that data is not gone. When he deletes a file, the operating system does not really remove the file from the hard disk; it only removes the reference of the file from the file system table. The file itself remains on the disk until another file is stored over it, and even after that, it is possible to recover data by investigating the magnetic fields on the disk platter surface. Before the file is overwritten, it can easily be retrieved with a disk maintenance tool or with an undelete utility. And after the file is overwritten the retrieving just becomes more difficult. And if it is not overwritten with just some other data but with special data, like an algorithm or with random characters or some other data 'destruction' method, that makes it more difficult to recover the original data, then the original data is still there and might be recoverable. So there is the possibility to recover deleted data. The more effort you put into erasing data the more money and energy is required to restore it and the more a recovery of the data becomes difficult. It is the same with security on the internet and with online banking and credit card security; it only takes time until some people develop something to overcome it. There might also be a cache in the operating system that still contains data from that file or data have leaked into other parts. If you destroy and melt the hard disc, or even the whole machine, you might have forgotten some backup of the file somewhere or somebody stole some data while you were online or because you used wireless equipment. There might be somebody who monitors every key stroke you make.

So what conclusion should we draw out of this discussion?

We have the situation that information can't really be destroyed. Even if we destroy information in the physical world, it still remains in the spiritual world. The Book of Life can't be accessed from this world - worldly methods can't erase the records therein. There is probably only one method of getting a clean record and that is a spiritual solution. It is forgiveness. If I carry on walking in forgiveness, walking in an attitude of forgiving, I carry on with a clean slate.

And what about the fact that it is highly energy absorbing to get rid of information here in our physical world? I simply don't create such information and put it down in physical form. All my conversation and communication is so that it is all the time transparent and can be investigated. I have nothing to hide. Whenever I make statements, verbally or in writing, and it does not matter if they get recorded or not, I am so led by the spirit of God that they are unassailable and that I can stand up to them even many years later.

But I say unto you, That every idle word that men shall speak, they shall give account thereof in the day of judgment. For by thy words thou shalt be justified, and by thy words thou shalt be condemned. Matthew 12:36-37.

So nothing that happens and that is done and spoken is ever lost.

Fear them not therefore: for there is nothing covered, that shall not be revealed; and hid, that shall not be known. Matthew 10:26.

And if there exists some information, for example, that might reveal my whereabouts in a situation where I am persecuted and the man-made church or their helpmates want to harm me, then there exists no problem that my spiritual helpers can confuse these people and let them run in the wrong direction.

When I know that the Book of Life is a record keeping system that works well and that can't be manipulated, then I adjust my walk of life accordingly and walk in the light. And when I do that, when my life becomes transparent and when there is nothing to hide, then I have no problems with the fact that already here on earth all recorded information about me, by me and by others, can get investigated and can get studied - is open for inspection.

Today we have a situation where probably all information travelling via telephone, fixed line phones and mobile ones, is being intercepted and recorded and stored. The storage capacities are such that simply everything gets stored. It is not anymore necessary to concentrate on specific people and on specific situations, this may be done in addition; simply everything gets collected and bagged. And when there is an interest in a specific person then a search engine is engaged to filter out the information required. And when there is a law that forbids such activities then the government simply allows another government to do the job for them and in return gets access to their collected information. And they also return the favour and grant them access to the information they have gathered and stored from that country.

And the people don't really mind. They are quite happy - as long as they are made to believe all this is necessary for security reasons. Their safety - their worldly safety - is important to them. Their eternal safety is of little concern as they are made to believe, by their man-made churches, that everything is okay - by them being members of their organisations.

So everything that goes via the phone: telephone calls, faxes, emails, data transfers, internet communication, you name it, is nicely packed away and available for inspection.

May be it is good idea that you become aware of this and profit from this and act accordingly, especially when they are after you. But it also can become a general way of life to limit oneself in phone use and the restriction of the use of the modern communication systems may simply be a result of simplifying one's life. It also helps saving energy and money and time. But the real gain is that it helps tremendously when ones aim is to more and more be led by the spirit. More and more then will such a person rely on what comes from the spiritual realm and will not require anymore much from the worldly system. In the old days the first reaction was may be to reach for the phone, or for some other worldly means, and now this has changed and the song of thanksgiving is interrupted and the thought, the thought of requesting a certain information, is simply released and a few moments later the info is received and the song of thanksgiving can be resumed - now with even a greater reason.

The more we, you and me and all the others, are turning to this kind of life the less attractive the artificial physical things made by our hands will become and they will fade away. This will tremendously help to heal the environment.

The real means of communication is thought. I communicate with the spiritual realm via thinking. That is prayer. When I form the prayer into words then I merely help with this process, but the help is mostly for myself because the forming of words and speaking them out helps my faith. It is a point of contact and helps. But it is not really necessary. Real communications takes place via the mind directly without the forming of words. Words and other bodily actions, like body language and other sounds and smells and tastes and feelings are mere symbols that represent certain aspects of a thought.

What is thought? What is memory? We use the word memory when we talk about something we thought of in the past and that we now remember. And when we use the word memory in connection with a computer then the meaning is not much different. We have stored some data that we created in the memory of the computer and recall it when required. And the data is stored by means of electromagnetism. The data are then contained on hard drives in magnetic patterns. And our thoughts are also magnetic patterns. Our body has an electrical counterpart. That is a body that is somehow also a physical body but that is not visible, at least not visible to normal vision. A person that has the gift of discerning of spirits might be able to see it. And this body does not have weight but varies in concentration and intensities of electric force. This is what we feel when we speak of the presence of a person's personality. It is somehow recognizable by us. We have a mind but this mind is not part of the physical world. We can't see it or sense it with any of our five senses. But the mind exists electrically. The brain exists physically, but not the mind. The mind, as well as emotions, exists electrically. And we can feel them physically. So we have here an area where the physical and the spiritual cannot really be separated. It is like the data of the computer, they already have something to do with the spiritual realm. Thoughts and feelings and emotions exist in some electrical system. And from this system the physical system is created and maintained. So first there exist something in this electrical system and from there the counterpart in the physical system is shaped and sustained. So the physical system completely depends on this electrical system. Not recognizing this is the main fault of the scientific theory of evolution. The influence that matter has on this electrical system is slight but the influence that the electrical system has on matter is considerable. Thoughts exist in this electrical system. Thoughts have an electrical reality. Now thoughts do not just exist when we originate them. They don't stop to exist after we have had them. This is important to realize when we want to understand faith and how it works, when we want to understand creation - creating something by using our faith. The same applies to prayer - to understand how prayer works. There is something real that we create. It is an electrical force that we set in motion. Prayer and faith is not just some wishy-washy that has nothing to do with reality. Faith is very much based on knowing what reality is. The opposite of faith, doubt, is very much based on ignorance. If I want to overcome doubt then I have to get rid of ignorance. Only then will I approach reality. The reality we operate in when we are active in the spiritual realm is much more powerful than when we are being active in the physical world. So thoughts, once created, continue to exist. To understand this and to know this will very much help to increase our effort to get control over thoughts - to bring into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ (2 Corinthians 10:5). That is where our power lies. It is in our mind. Our mind and our thoughts are eternal. Not our brain, not our body, not the physical things around us. And that is why it is foolish to spend one's life trying to accumulate physical things; it is just a waste of time. It just keeps us from accumulating the things of real value, the fruit that Jesus speaks of. If we fall for this trick then we missed the whole reason for being here. Our purpose here is to discover that the physical world is not the real, permanent world, and then to explore this physical world and to overcome it. If we don't realize this then we have missed the purpose of this trip. The fact that our whole upbringing taught us the opposite just makes the whole experience more interesting. Will we come to the point where we realize what is going on? Will we detect the real purpose of the 'system'? Or will we just be deluded by it and fail? Thought is electrical or spiritual action. So real action is not something physical but something spiritual - electrical. And this electrical system is just one of many systems, of many spiritual systems. It is just the one that is closest to our physical system. So thoughts and emotions are not created by the physical body and do not reach then into the spiritual realm but are parts of the spiritual world and very much influence the physical world. They are the things that really shape the physical world. They shape our body. It is not what goes into our body that causes obesity and sickness but it is the spiritual force that comes from the spiritual plane that determines our wellbeing and our feebleness and our happiness and our depression.

Are ye also yet without understanding? Do not ye yet understand, that whatsoever entereth in at the mouth goeth into the belly, and is cast out into the draught? But those things which proceed out of the mouth come forth from the heart; and they defile the man. For out of the heart proceed evil thoughts, murders, adulteries, fornications, thefts, false witness, blasphemies: These are the things which defile a man: but to eat with unwashed hands defileth not a man. Matthew 15:16-20.

It is the thoughts that create all good and all bad situations in our life. Our body does not create thoughts. Our thoughts create our body and they create how our body feels, if it feels sick or healthy.

So if somebody has a problem with obesity then the cure is not determined by what enters in at his mouth and in his body but what comes out of his mouth, what comes out of his thought life. The change he has to make is not a change in diet but a change in thinking. What comes out of his mouth - his words - is showing what he is thinking and that is what will make the difference. What enters in at his mouth is just physical stuff and does not really make much of a change. Changes are made in the spiritual realm. Such changes will change the physical situation. Thoughts and emotions directly influence the physical workings. The emotional climate directly affects the physical health. Thoughts and emotions come from the mind and are sent from there into the brain and the brain then initiates action. So they are completely independent of the brain and of the body and of the physical world. When we leave our body, when we are absent because of an out of body experience or because of death, then we use our mind as usual and it works perfectly without the brain. The physical system does not create the mind, and thoughts and emotions, it is exactly the other way round, the physical system is caused by the spiritual realm - by this electrical system.

Jesus gives us a list of things which defile a man: Matthew 15:16-20 quoted above. Have a look at this list and when you find an item, or some items, that apply to you then do something about it. The fastest way is to change your speaking. Watch what comes out of your mouth and change that. When you change your speaking you force your thinking to follow. If your problem is blasphemies, using foul language, then whenever you are tempted to let wrong words come out of your mouth, say something like, "I put away perversity from my mouth, I keep corrupt talk far from my lips" (Proverbs 4:24) or "No corrupt communication proceeds out of my mouth, but that which is good to the use of edifying, that it may minister grace unto hearers" (Ephesians 4:29). With such action you put pressure on your thinking and cause it to change.

If you are afraid of germs, and bugs, and microbes, bacteria, viruses, then realize that to be afraid is the problem and not these little animals. When you are afraid and publish this by the words that come out of your mouth then you should know that this is the cause of physical problems and not the stuff that enters in at your mouth - the germs. The words that come out of your mouth are causing the harm, because they are representatives of your thoughts. Your immune system is perfectly designed to deal with all these physical attacks upon your system, it is just normal that it happens.

Your immune system will determine if your body can handle attacks by foreign agents that invade the body. And when you have a sound mind, when your mind is right, when your mind and your will is the same as God's mind and God's will, then this right-mindedness will cause you to only put the right kind of stuff into your body. And this again will cause your immune system to be okay. But to proof to you that it is the mind that determines what your body will be like just try to live a healthy life by just putting the right kind of physical stuff into your body but putting the wrong kind of spiritual stuff into your mind and then see what results you are going to have. If you put only healthy food like fruit into your body, if you do the right kind of exercises, if you treat your skin the way it should be done, if you breath the right way and the right kind of air, if you do all these physically things right, but neglect mental hygiene then all the healthy food, jogging, not smoking, massaging, etc. will not help you. What really will determine your bodily health, or more exactly your failing bodily health, will be stuff like resentment, unforgivingness, attack, anger, grief, depression, loneliness and so forth. These are the things that will harm your body. There are people who manage to live a physical healthy life but still die of cancer. Their spiritual and their mental state is what makes or breaks them.

If you are busy dying of cancer then also realize that the cancer cells are not your problem. It is normal that your body deals with such attacks. Your body is perfectly built to heal everything and to produce any medicine required. It is your words that mirror your thought life that cause the problem. Change them and so cause a change in your thinking and your new thinking will do the job. I once talked to some friends about thinking and talking and dying of cancer and about faith and the power of words - the positive power of words and also the negative power of words - and suggested that one should watch out for the words that come out of people's mouth. After I had finished this talk a young man from England spoke up and told us that he is a widower and that his wife died recently of cancer and that what I had explained was exactly what happened in the life of his wife. She was all the time, he told us, using words and expressions that stabilized her cancer state, that were expressing her fears, she again and again stated that she had cancer and how bad it was and what the doctors had said and what the reports had reported. The testimony of this young man was quite a powerful demonstration to us - and also to himself - of the validity of what had previously been explained in theory.

In Mark 16:18 Jesus is reported as saying that if they shall take up serpents, and if they drink any deadly thing, it shall not hurt them. But this will only then not hurt them when they do what Jesus says in verse 16. In verse 16 Jesus says that he that believes shall be saved. And then he says that he that believes not shall be damned. He that believes that cancer cells will not hurt him will be saved from cancer and he that believes not that cancer cells will not hurt him will be damned, that means he will die of cancer. This is it what Jesus teaches us. This practical aspect of the Good News is it we should bring to the people and this is it what orthodoxy - the man-made church system - fails to proclaim. They talk about the idea that salvation will happen somewhere in the future, but Jesus talks about being saved now - being saved now from cancer or from a serpent, or from a deadly thing. Be aware of people who talk of salvation that will take place sometime in the future. Such people don't really want you to be saved now, they are quite happy that you carry on suffering, and believe in salvation that might happen when you get to heaven. And this kind of salvation - that happens in another realm - can't be proved here and therefore the claim of the churchman is not subject to inspection and no prove needs to be provided. He claims that you will be saved when you die - under the condition that you become and remain a member of his imitation church. And when you then die you might find out that your situation is quite different from what you were promised. So you land up not being saved here when you had cancer and also not being saved then when you wake up in your new dwelling place. If you don't spend time practising your faith here on earth - practising your faith here when you get the lethal diagnosis and the cancer is attacking - then your faith will not be of much value and your afterlife might proof to be quite disappointing. If faith for practical day to day situations is not taught and not practised then faith for some future situation is just empty talk. Beware of such.

Orthodoxy's main problem is that they are dead scared of the workings of the Holy Spirit. He is their enemy number one. They like to talk about faith that has no substance, that will show its fruit sometime in the future on another plane, and the results of this faith they don't have to back up with concrete works. They actually don't believe in anything.

So realize that thoughts are the most powerful things you will ever create. They exist in many realms and not just in this physical plane of ours. Thoughts are far reaching, they cause reaction in various dimensions of existence, they have effects on worlds that are unknown to us. They are even more real and concrete than a massive steel and concrete structure here on earth, because such a structure exist just in this realm, but thoughts have power in many dimensions. Do not forget that a thought, once created, cannot be withdrawn. Once it is released it can't be stopped.

When we consider this Book of Life then we have in reality something like a computer that is immeasurably comprehensive and capable. Let us see what Jesus has to say about this machine.

Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you; for every one that asketh receiveth; and he that seeketh findeth; and to him that knocketh it shall be opened. Matthew 7:7-8.

We have today the internet, so we do not just have the information stored on the hard disk of our computer and on CD-ROMs and DVDs and flash drives, but much more. It seems quite immense the amount of information we have potentially access to. But what about all the books in the world's libraries? The information contained in these books seems to come available only slowly. And what about all the other information that was ever generated? All the thoughts and emotions of all the people that ever lived? All the things that all men ever saw, heard, smelled, tasted and felt? And then add to this all the information of all the other worlds - of all the other dimensions. So this Book of Life is quite something. And we have got access to it. We just have to ask. Imagine a computer where I don't have to have electricity, I don't have to boot up, I don't have to operate the keyboard, select programs, put something into the query box of the search engine. I just have to have a thought, and that is all. If I am tuned into the right frequency - if I am led by the spirit - then a thought is all that is needed. And the answer will come - just as it is needed. The answer might come right now or it might come at the right time for the situation. This computer is equipped with a search engine that is out of this world. He that seeketh findeth. I don't even have to choose from a number of replies. Only the right answer will be given me.

To really understand the basic problem of this world you have to understand the difference between the real church and the false church - orthodoxy. Orthodoxy hijacked the real church at a very early stage of Christianity and this is documented nicely in the New Testament. You must simply read it properly - take your religious glasses off when you read. It is all there. There you will even find one of the first representatives of orthodoxy mentioned by name. Go to 3 John. Orthodoxy is the system of anti-Christ. Anti-Christ was always part of Christianity and not something outside of it. Now to recognize somebody inside Christianity who might be an anti-Christ you have to know how to do this. And there is a person specialized to give you this information. And this person is also mentioned by name in the New Testament. Go to the New Testament and you will find his name all over the place. Jesus will give you plenty of details how to do this recognizing. Go to "Watch Out!", a chapter in this series, and you will find an abundance of these details. Now there is also a very good way how not to recognize anti-Christ and how to waste much time and that is to read books about him written by little anti-Christs, by authors that come from the system of anti-Christ and who are much interested in putting a veil over your head or better pulling the wool over your eyes. And such authors, such little anti-Christs, are part of orthodoxy. You can easily recognize them. Just read about them in the first or in last view pages of a book. If they have a nice religious title or if they are part of a denomination - orthodoxy - then you have more than you need. If you do not understand that orthodoxy is the very direct system owned and run by anti-Christ then you will never understand much of spiritual things and carry on groping around in the dark. And this does not apply to Christianity only. It applies to all religions. In all religions you will find more or less the same situation. In all religions you have the real spiritual people who have and teach the truth, and this truth might be represented in many forms, and you have the religious guys, the priests, the clergy, and their followers. So in every religion you have the spiritual guys on one side - the right side - and you have the orthodox guys on the other side - the wrong side.

Start to think about this and ask yourself if this does not even apply to other areas in life, like science, like philosophy, like politics, like business.

A quite tangible difference between the right side and the wrong side of all religions can be observed when you look at physical fighting. All the right sides have no reason to fight each other. Within a religion they have no reasons, because they do not have parties and denominations, and outside their religion there is also no need to fight, fight other religions, because they support the same truth. And the wrong side is always fighting, fighting physical wars, not just cold wars, but real hot wars. Within their religions they fight other denominations. A good example was the fighting inside of the UK about North Ireland. The Protestants fighting the Catholics and the Catholics fighting the Protestants. Outside their religions they fight other religions. A good example is the crusades. The Christian religious people attacking the Muslim religious people, and they fighting back. And what about the wrong side fighting the right side? A good example is the leaders of the Jews fighting their Messiah - killing him eventually. Did he fight back? Not at all. There was in no way a physical reaction. And what about the right side fighting the wrong side? They don't. We do not war after the flesh.

Real spiritual people do not fight other people. When they see the light emerging somewhere else, then they rejoice. A good example is the emerging of the light in Bethlehem of Judea. Now when Jesus was born in Bethlehem of Judea in the days of Herod the king, behold, there came wise men from the east to Jerusalem (Matthew 2:1). They came from the east. They were no Jews. But they, when they saw the young child, fell down, and worshipped him, and presented gifts unto him. They were from a country with a completely different religious background, but that was no hindrance at all. There are no real barriers between wise people in all parts of the world. The truth is everywhere the same. Light overcomes darkness everywhere.

This visit of the wise men from the east shows that Christianity was right from the beginning never a narrow religious movement. Is was right from the initiation a universal thing, recognized by the wise far away. They had access to information from the Book of Life and acted on it and took part in a world-shaking event.

They were wise men from the east. Wise men from the east also today have the same aims as the wise men in the west. We are pulling in the same direction.

When a spiritual person comes to town then another spiritual person will rejoice, because the light in that town is increasing. When a religious person comes to town and starts there his religious business, a man-made church, then the other religious guys see it as competition, even if he is from the same sect or denomination. He takes business away from them. And therefore the rivalry - the war - has started.

And orthodoxy likes to form organisations. Real spiritual people - people who have the truth and practice it - don't need and have organisations. But the orthodox guys can't live without it and they also need organisations that organize various organisations into a higher organisation. Being busy with organizing is an important part of their life. And then they have the world council for something and there they jostle for positions or might not really join it because they think they are the only real church and the others just have to join them and their organisation and that would fix everything. And competition is a very key aspect for them. The sheep are the paying ones and it is them that they are fighting for and they talk about sheep steeling and they treat their 'parishioners' like customers and like merchandise.

They treat their laity like dummies and in a certain way they are right because if someone claims to be a follower of Christ and never really finds out what Christ and his teaching is all about, is and behaves like a dummy.

And to really become a spiritual person one does not just have to understand the difference between spirit and orthodoxy, one also has to cut himself completely off from all ties with this anti-Christian system. Any connection that may remain will always be a tool that will give the devil power over oneself. To be free from anti-Christ will require a complete separation from him and his system.

You have to completely cut all diplomatic ties with the system of anti-Christ. Close down all embassies and consulates and all private connections as well. When you are taking this step of excommunicating the imitation church out of your system then you will still have enough problems getting rid of all the theology and teaching that they have put into you and that scum and that dross and that residue that they left in your system. You will again and again discover things that are in complete disagreement with the teachings of the Bible and that are the results of their influence.

If you think that the church got corrupted when Constantine made it a state church then you are completely ignoring all the evidence against this idea that is available plainly in Scripture. The church got corrupted right at the beginning and all the details are openly available in the New Testament.

You have to completely and utterly severe your connections to orthodoxy when you intend to become spiritual, when you intend to live a life being led by the spirit and have the mind of Christ.

The real church - church life as described in the Bible - is a model of society that is quite unique. It is a model that really works and that is far superior to others. It is a model that deals with all the evils and shortcomings in the life of men. All health problems are dealt with. Any shortfall of material needs is handled. The provision of solutions to relationship problems is the core of all the teachings of Scripture.

In order to explain the influence of orthodoxy from a completely different angle let us have a look at the spirituality of India.

In the following I will bring you a lengthy quote from a book called "Geetha Vahini: The Divine Gospel" by Sai Baba. I will quote from the chapters XVIII and XIX. In square brackets I have added some explanations.

So here follows the quote.

Arjuna put in a query. He said, "Krishna! I do not quite understand the meaning of what you call Jnana [spiritual knowledge, experiential wisdom]. Is it the knowledge learnt through the ear from the teacher? Or is it the knowledge culled from the Sastras [holy scripture; sacred text; that which commands, orders, directs with authority]? Or is it the knowledge imparted by those rich in actual experience? Which among these liberates man from bondage?"

Krishna replied: "The types of knowledge you mentioned now are all useful at some stage or the other of one's spiritual development; but by none of them can you escape the cycle of birth and death! That which releases you is known as Anubhavajnana [self-experience; knowledge from personal experience], the knowledge that you yourself experience; that alone can help you to be free. The teacher can be of some help in the process; but he cannot show you your real self. You have to visualise it yourself; besides, you have to be free from vices like envy. Then only can you be called a Purna Jnani, one who has attained full Jnana [spiritual knowledge, experiential wisdom]. He who has faith in this Jnana, who is devoted in acquiring it, and who is full of yearning to earn it, only such a person can realise Me."

"He must be free from envy; besides, he must be earnest, steeped in Sraddha [faith]. Earnestness is essential even for the performance of the smallest act by man. Not man alone, but bird and beast, worm and virus, all have to be earnest to succeed. When you have no earnestness or Sraddha [faith] in the act, you cannot gather the fruit."

"Arjuna! I am the witness; through Me, this Prakrithi, this conglomeration of the five elements called Prapancha [cosmos; created world composed of the five elements], all these moveable and immoveable objects, are formed. Through Me as the cause, the Prapancha behaves in various ways. Fools who cannot understand Me as the highest principle and as the master of all the elements whose will they have to obey, take Me to be just a man. Some great men reverently meditate on Me as Brahmam [impersonal supreme being, primal source and ultimate goal for all beings. Thus, it is identical to the Atma]; others worship Me under various names and in various forms; some then worship Me through Jnanayajna [sacrifice involving spiritual wisdom] and Atmayajna [self-sacrifice]."

"Whatever the name, whatever the form of worship, I am the recipient; for I am the goal of all. I am the only one; there is no other. I Myself become the worshipped, through My many names and forms. Not only this; I am the fruit of all actions, the bestower of the fruit, the basis. The prompter, the prompter of all. Why recount and repeat? I am the force behind the birth, existence and death of everything and of every life. I am the birthless, deathless cause."

"Realise Me, the primal cause; that is indeed Moksha [liberation, devoid of delusion. Freedom from bondage]. He is the Jivanmuktha (liberated even while alive) who attains that Moksha. Therefore, Arjuna, if one yearns to become a Jivanmuktha [one who is liberated in this life], to attain Moksha, he must accomplish some simple disciplines. He has to eradicate fully the attachment to the body."

Hearing this, Arjuna intercepted, "Krishna! Do you speak of this Sadhana [spiritual discipline of exercise; self effort] of complete detachment as a simple discipline? Is it so easy to practise? Even accomplished ascetics find it difficult and you recommend it so glibly to people like me! You speak of it as if it were a very simple task; but it is a formidable endeavour. I feel you are putting me on trial with such suggestions. Can I ever attain that state? Can I win liberation, can I attain Moksha? I have no hope," he said and sat dispirited.

Krishna was watching him steadily losing courage. He went close to him and patted his back in a reassuring manner. He said, "Arjuna! There is no need to get perturbed and desperate just for this. No one will get faith as soon as one hears of it. One must delve into it with the help of reason; then it will be found that this discipline is not as hard as it is imagined to be. To become completely detached it is not necessary to grow matted hair, wear ochre robes and torture the body into skin and bone. It is enough if you do all acts as dedicated to the Lord, without any desire. This is the secret of liberation."

"Performing all activities in this manner is not difficult. Only, one should have steady faith and earnestness. Of course, these are essential for every type of activity and so, you can realise that they are indispensable for spiritual activity too."

"Whoever among devotees dedicates all acts to Me with no other thought, whoever meditates on Me, serves Me, worships Me, remembers Me, knows that I am always with him, ever providing for him in this world and the next. I bear the burden of his Yogakshema [welfare, well-being, happiness]. Do you hear Me?" asked Krishna, patting Arjuna again on the back and imparting courage to his drooping heart.

This statement about the Lord guaranteeing the Yogakshema [welfare, well-being, happiness] of the devotee has given rise to a great deal of misunderstanding. Even pundits, not to speak of others, have failed to grasp its real import. The commentators on the Geetha explain this declaration in manifold ways.

This most sacred sentence is as the navel to the Geetha-body. The navel of Vishnu [the preserver in the trinity of Brahma (the creator), Vishnu, and Siva (the destroyer)] was the place where Brahma took birth; this sloka [verse] is the navel or place of nativity for those who thirst for Brahmajnana [knowledge of Brahman]. If this sloka is followed in practice, the entire Geetha can be understood.

There are a number of interesting stories current about this sloka [verse]. I shall give one example: A learned pundit [learned scholar, wise man] was once giving discourses on the Geetha in the august presence of a Maharaja [great king]. One day the turn of this sloka came:

Ananyaaschinthayantho maam
Ye janaah paryupaasathe
Theshaam nithyaabhiyukthaanaam
Yogakshemam vahamyaham.

The pundit was explaining enthusiastically the many-sided implications of this sloka, but the Maharaja shook his head and said: "This meaning is not correct." He continued to dispute the correctness of every one of the explanations the pundit gave. The poor pundit had won meritorious distinctions at the court of many a Maharaja and was honoured by them all with pompous titles. He felt as if he was stabbed when the Maharaja in the presence of the entire band of courtiers condemned his explanation of this sloka a 'wrong'. He smarted under the insult; but plucking up courage, he again set upon his task, and marshalling all his scholarship, he plunged into an eloquent discourse on the multiple meaning of the words, "Yoga" and "Kshema" [welfare, happiness]. The Maharaja did not approve of even this; he ordered: "Find out the meaning of this sloka and having understood it well, come to me again tomorrow." With this, the Maharaja rose from his throne and went into the inner apartments.

The pundit lost even the few grains of courage left in him. He was weighed down by anxiety; he tottered under the insult; he reached home and, placing the copy of the Geetha aside, he dropped on his bed.

Surprised at this, the pundit's wife asked, "Tell me why you came home from the palace today in such grief? What exactly did happen?" She rained one anxious question after another so that the pundit was obliged to describe to her all that had happened, the insults heaped on his head, the command with which the Maharaja sent him home, etc. The wife listened calmly to the account of what had happened and after pondering deeply over the incident, she said, "Yes; it is true. What the Maharaja said is right. The explanation you gave for the sloka is not the correct one. How could the Maharaja approve it? The fault is yours." At this, the pundit rose in anger from the cot, like a cobra whose tail is trodden hard. "What do you know, you silly woman? Am I inferior in intelligence to you? Do you, who are engaged in the kitchen all the time, cooking and serving, claim to know more than I? Shut your mouth and quit my presence," he roared.

But the lady stood her ground. She replied, "Lord! Why do you fly into such a rage at a statement of mere truth? Repeat the sloka once again to yourself and ponder over its meaning. You will then arrive at the right answer yourself." Thus by her soft words the wife brought calm into the mind of her husband.

The pundit started analysing the meaning of each individual word in the sloka. Ananyaaschinthayantho maam, he began, deliberately and slowly, repeating aloud the various meanings. The wife intervened and said, "What use is it to learn and expound the meanings of words? Tell me what your intention was when you approached this Maharaja. What was the purpose?" At this, the pundit got wild. "Should I not run this family, this home? How am I to meet the cost of food and drink, of clothes and things, for you and all the rest? It is for the sake of these that I went to him, of course; or else, what business have I with him?" he shouted.

The wife then replied. "If you had only understood what lord Krishna has declared in this sloka, the urge to go to this Maharaja would not have arisen! If He is worshipped without any other thought, if one but surrenders to Him, if at all times the mind is fixed on him, then the Lord has declared in this sloka that He would provide everything for the devotee. You have not done these three; you approach the Maharaja, believing that he would provide everything! That is where you have gone against the meaning of the verse. That is the reason why he did not accept your explanation."

Hearing this, that reputed scholar sat awhile, ruminating on her remarks. He realised his mistake. He did not proceed to the palace the next day. Instead, he got immersed in the worship of Krishna at home. When the king inquired why the pundit had not appeared, courtiers said that he was staying at home and had not started out. The king sent a messenger, but the pundit declined to move out. He said, "There is no need for me to go to any one; my Krishna will provide me with everything; He will bear my Yogakshema [welfare, well-being, happiness] Himself. I suffered insult because I did not realise this so long, being blinded by eagerness to know the manifold meanings of mere words. Surrendering to Him, if I am ceaselessly engaged in worshipping Him, He will Himself provide me with all I need."

When the messenger took this message to the palace, the Maharaja proceeded to the dwelling of the pundit on foot; he fell at the feet of the pundit, saying "I thank you sincerely for explaining to me this day, out of your own experience, the meaning of the sloka which you expounded yesterday." Thus, the king taught the pundit that any propagation of spiritual matters which does not come out of the crucible of experience is mere glitter and show.

Even today, many learned men who go about discoursing on the Geetha and doing propaganda for it, do not observe its principles in practice; they are engaged in simply expounding to the world the valueless rind, the textual meaning, the sense of the words and nothing more. Trying to spread the Geetha, without actually practising it, is tantamount to ruining the cause and insulting the sacred book. They extol the Geetha as the very breath of their life, as the crown of all scriptures, and as having emanated from the lips of the Lord Himself.

They show so much reverence for the book that their eyes overflow with tears at the very mention of its name; they place it on their heads; they press it on their eyes; they keep it in their shrines and offer Puja [worship] to it with great bursts of demonstrative devotion. All the respect, all the worship is only for the paper, the book!

If indeed they have reverence for the words of the Lord, the contents of the book, they would have striven to put them into practice, is it not? No; they do not strive, they have no iota of experience. If they have the experience, none of them would barter the spread of that experience for money. They would yearn only for grace.

Not even one in a million among the Geethapracharaks today, among those who talk about their mission of spreading the Geetha, has the yearning for the grace of the Lord. No; if they had that yearning, they would not have thought of income or of money.

Chapter XVIII of the book called "Geetha Vahini: The Divine Gospel" by Sai Baba ends here and what follows is Chapter XIX.

Speakers who are out to spread the Geetha have multiplied nowadays and as a consequence, and a variety of interpretations, most of them far removed from the genuine one, has emanated, clouding the true significance. Interpretations follow the nature and character of the exponent. Once an opinion is formed, he tries to buttress it with appropriate arguments and prove all others wrong. It is then repeated parrot-like on every occasion; no attempt is made to practise the Geetha and make it part of one's actual life. Such persons pretend to be great Geetha Pracharaks and go about heavy with the burden of credentials and titles. They ruin themselves by this deception and undermine the trust placed on the Geetha.

The words of God are, each one, for translation into actual life, not for scattering into the ears of men to reap fame. But the times have gone so awry, that they are today misused for acquiring publicity and praise! Those who listen to the expositions of these Pracharaks are also failing to question their bona fides; they do not care to examine whether the persons who extol the Geetha to the skies have tasted the sweetness of its teachings. Words and deeds are far apart; they exhort others but those who are exhorted find that the teachers do not themselves follow the lesson! No, not even one in a million.

There are some who boast that they have the entire Geetha on the tip of the tongue; that they can roll out, on the spot, any sloka from the Geetha which you want to hear, if only the chapter and number are given; or, they can quote chapter and number for any phrase or word you give. I am inclined to laugh when such scholarship is exhibited. Poor tongue, that it should carry so much on its tip, without any of it being absorbed in actual life! A gramophone record can repeat as well as they, and with equal benefit to itself. Practising one verse certainly yields more benefit than learning all the verses by rote and retaining them in memory. Arjuna proved every word of Krishna true, by practising it. His sincerity won him the Grace of Krishna.

It is a pity that even extremely learned pundits at the present time are unaware of the thrill of putting into practice a single word of the Geetha. What then are we to say of the unlearned, the ignorant? In short, even some very reputed exponents of the Geetha are playing false to its teaching, acting contrary to the message. To the song of the Lord, each one adds a fancy note of his own to demonstrate his special twist in scholarship, or his favourite predilection. Let us consider one example of this type. The 10th verse of the 6th chapter of the Geetha declares that "Parigraha" [accepting help from others] is a great sin.

Now those who accept the Geetha as authority should act accordingly, avoiding Parigraha, is it not so? Parigraha means, "accepting" even for the upkeep of the body and the maintenance of Dharma [right action]! These Pracharaks however, do accept, 99 per cent of them! The condemnation of Parigraha applies to all forms; there are no modifying circumstances or exceptions. Yet, collections and contributions are asked for Geethayajnas, as 'offering' during Harathi [ritual worship in which lights are waved; also called Aarathi], as expenses for the Geetha Pracharaka Sanghas, as Nazar [gift] or Kanuka for the Guru; tickets are sold for the lectures as tickets for entertainments (like the drama and cinema) are sold. People who do this have no faith in the words of Krishna; for had they the faith, they would not behave in such contrary ways. If they were convinced that it is wrong, they would not be tempted to act so. They explain the sloka and feel that their duty is done; they do not feel the need to follow the advice. This is the spirit of the times, for this is the age of hypocrisy. People who watch this type of Geetha Prachar lose faith in the Pracharak and later in the Geetha itself. The publicity dissolves into mere pomp and vanity.

The teachings of the Geetha do not get the respect that the book gets. Thousands of people, when they see the sacred books, Geetha, Ramayana, Bhagavatha, Bharatha, etc., bow their heads, press them to their eyes, place them on their heads, keep them on a special seat in the shrine and reverentially placing a few flowers on them, they sit with closed eyes and with teardrops rolling down their cheeks, fall prostrate before the books and rise very much satisfied with themselves! All that reverence is for the stack of paper, not for the contents of the books, the subjects they deal with.

What the head must carry is not the weight of the paper, but the message contained thereon. Attach value not to the book, but to the subject; revere, not the volume, but the matter expounded therein. Install it not on the altar, but in the heart. For it is only then that the authority of the Geetha will be honoured steadily, at all times. The mind will not be cleansed of egoism or like evils by all this outward reverence: learning by rote, offering worship in the shrine room, holding on the head, pressing on the eyes, etc. Let the message enter the heart; put it into practice and taste the joy that comes therefrom. That is the way of honouring the Geetha.

The tastiest dish can never quell your hunger if you place it on the head or press it to your eye or fall prostrate before it. The Geetha too is on par with this. The Geetha is a tasty dish, full of the sweet ingredients of Bhakthi [devotion to God], Jnana [wisdom], Vairagya [detachment, renunciation]. Eat it; drink it. One morsel is enough. The Karma and hungry man does not need all the grain that is harvested; a handful of rice suffices. The thirsty man need not drink the Godavari [name of a river] dry; a glass of water is enough.

He who has hunger for God need not consume the entire Geetha; it can be quenched by practising even one sloka. A box of matches has many sticks; if you want to light a fire you need strike only one; you can nurture the little flame into a huge fire, with care and diligence. The entire stock of sticks need not be struck. There are 700 sticks in the Geetha; each one is a stick from which you can light the flame of Jnana [spiritual knowledge, experimental wisdom]. Strike one on the stone of experience, that is enough.

The Geetha has to be used thus for self-realisation; that is the holy task for which it is designed. It is a great wrong to misuse it; all attempts to use it for fame and fortune, for titles and display, are but symptoms of egoism; they are acts of sacrilege. The 'Gandha' must be extracted from this 'Grantha'; that is the test of scholarship; the fragrance (Gandha) is the essence of the book (Grantha). Do not, on the other hand, transform the Masthaka into a Pusthaka, the brain into a book.

See God in the stone; do not change God into stone. That is the vision which is highly desirable. The stone must be visualised as divine, suffused with God; which it really is. This vision is the precious gift that God has given to the people of this land. Pearls do not float on the waves of the ocean; dive deep into the silent caverns at the bottom if you yearn for them. The people of this land have sought for God in this manner for ages.

The practice of Dharma is the body; the realisation of God is its heart; this is the truth that has urged the people here to march forward and save themselves. They are not slaves to outward polish, external embroidery, or material comfort. They search for the basic Atma with the inner eye and cultivate detachment. The people of Bharath [India], who have this grand nature, are however, attracted today by material progress and outward pomp! This is a tragedy much to be regretted.

Those who go about expounding the Geetha with the object of earning money are thereby keeping God afar. They may give various justifications for their behaviour, no doubt; but none who has real faith in the Geetha or who is a real adherent of its teaching can accept their explanations.

The Geetha is spoken in order to foster Dharma, not Dhanam; it serves to promote goodness, not "goodsness." Collecting money in the name of a temple for Krishna or for Rama, or a Mandir [temple] for the Geetha, is another means of reducing faith in God; building a house for the Lord who is immanent and all-pervading is absurd. The heart is the proper temple where Krishna or the Geetha is to be installed. To put up an artificial structure that is certain to be ravaged by time, for the eternal absolute, the indestructible Godhead, is very improper. Of course, until a stage is reached, these may be necessary, but in that case, it is wiser to make the best use of the ancient temples that already exist. Building new ones and ruining the old ones is as foolish as killing the cow and donating footwear made out of its hide! The welfare of the world can be promoted by the renovation of old temples and not by the creation of new ones. The installation of God in ancient days was done according to strict Sastraic ritual and so the old temples are holier. The power radiating from them confers upon this land whatever little welfare it enjoys now.

The Rishis [sage, wise man] of the past suffered hardships, detached themselves from the world and even disintegrated their bodies in the search for the secrets of individual salvation and social uplift. They have handed down certain codes of conduct and rules of living which are practicable and simple. Even these are now neglected or misunderstood; new codes and rules are imposed with the result that these precious ones have gone under.

When elders, Guru and Pundits accept and honour these newfangled modes of behaviour, how can Bharath [India] continue to be Dharmakshetra [abode or field of righteousness], Yogakshetra [abode or state or field of yoga] and Thyagakshetra [abode or field of sacrifice]? This downfall in ideals explains why the land which verily was Annapurna [bestower of food; goddess; a form of Durga (goddess of destruction of evil obstacles)], feeding all her children, has to wail today for food. The holy experience - Sivoham, I am Siva - was resounding from every mountain valley, every cave, every temple and each sacred river bank; but now the cry is, Savoham, Savoham, I am dead!

The land has lost its ancient joy; it is infested with anxiety; it is the home of self-aggrandizement; it is pursuing empty pomp. To counteract these tendencies, the spread of spiritual knowledge by persons who have actually experienced the joy of Sadhana [spiritual discipline or exercise; self effort] and success in and through it has become very necessary. Everyone from the simple unlettered man to the Paramahamsa [realized sage] must recognise this need. All must cultivate faith in the Geetha and take it as the authentic word of the Lord.

The Lord has given the assurance: "Yogakshemam vahaamyaham," "I shall bear the burden of your welfare, here and hereafter." He has undertaken this task voluntarily. But for mortals and aspirants to benefit from this, they have to live as ordained; they have to adhere to the lines laid down. When they feel that they are not so helped, they have only to examine their own lives and discover how far they have kept up the commands of God regarding the regulation of life. They fail to examine this. They do not consider the past and future; they complain only about the grief of the moment, not knowing that it is caused by neglect in the past and ignorance of the future. This is the root of their suffering.

While considering this assurance, the condition precedent contained in the same sloka, "Ananyaaschinthayantho maam, ye janaah paryupaasathe" has to be remembered. "Yogakshemam vahaamyahhm" is the crown of this condition, the final fruit. The assurance is the head; but no head can function independently of limbs. Holding fast to the head only, apart from neck and shoulders and the rest of the body, is like putting faith in the key in one's hand after the iron safe has been stolen! Of what use is the key, after the treasure is burgled?

The conditions for the fulfilment of that assurance are: Ananyachintha [undivided contemplation (of the Lord)] and Upaasana [worship, devotion, meditation practice, acquisition of the presence of the Lord], Meditation on the Lord unhampered by any other thought and steady worship. If unbroken meditation is absent, when worship is not offered with unconditional surrender, what justification is there to complain that He is not bearing the burden?

You surrender to others: you praise and extol others; you are immersed in other thoughts. How then can He assume the burden? You serve others; and press the Lord for reward! How can this be Ananya chintha, undivided loyalty? If a man is the servant of the king he must serve him wholeheartedly; if he serves the king and loves his family, it cannot be termed unswerving loyalty. Serve whom you love, love whom you serve. That is the secret of Saranagathi, surrender. Vyasa [compiler of Vedas and author of the Mahabharatha, Mahabhagawatham, and Brahma Sutra] made a lovely garland, this sloka is the crest. It is this central jewel of that garland of gems.

The words "Yoga" and "Kshema" used by the Lord here mean: "Yoga" acquisition of something desirable; and "Kshema," the preservation of what is thus acquired. The discipline by which you can preserve it is: Ananya chintha, exclusive meditation on the Lord. That will cleanse the mind; it will make you a Bhaktha. The Bhaktha is recognised by these things; he talks of the Lord; he sings of the Lord; he sees only the Lord; he works and spends his leisure with the Lord.

Such persons have no need to perform Yajna [Holy ritual, sacrifice, or rite. Also personification of rite (when capitalized)] or Yaga [oblation, sacrifice, ceremony in which oblations are presented]; they need not busy themselves with meritorious acts of charity; they need not go from one holy place to another. Why should they be sad if they miss these things or complain that the Lord did not give them the chance or the wherewithal for these? He does not insist on these or crave for these. Offer whatever arises in the mind, made pure by Sadhana; He gladly accepts all. You may engage yourselves in what are termed "good" deeds but if the mind is unclean, if the vessel in not 'tinned' with the thought of God, they are all polluted into poison. He is particular, the vessel should be clean.

Note how the handful of parched rice that Kuchela offered the Lord with a pure mind pleased Him. Read the experiences of Vidura and Droupadi in the epics and the Puranas. What did they offer the Lord? Vidura gave a cup of gruel; Droupadi had only a wee bit of leaf to offer. On the face of it, they are valueless, to fetch even half a Paisa as price. But, consider how much the Lord gave in return! He does not calculate the value of things, He calculates the feeling that prompted the act. So purify the feeling in order to win His grace.

So this is the end of this lengthy quotation from the chapters XVIII and XIX of the book Geetha Vahini: The Divine Gospel by Sai Baba.

Now let me make some comments on the above quotation.

The Gita has 18 chapters and contains a total of 700 verses. It is written in Sanskrit, a classical language of the Hindu peoples of India. The Gita is also called Bhagavad Gita.

To understand the Gita better let me give a few explanations.

The god Krishna gives advice to Arjuna. Arjuna is in a battle situation, but realizes that the actual battle is for his own soul.

Arjuna is the name of a man and he represents the individual. He travels in a chariot, and this chariot represents the body. The charioteer, the driver of the chariot, is the teacher, is Krishna. He is the inspirer of the intellect. He is the spirit, our higher self, our real self. He is the inspirer - when we pray; when we request it, then he inspires. The side on which Arjuna is fighting represents the divine nature, and the side he is fighting against is the demonic nature. The spirit, in this case Krishna, is always on the side of truth, the divine nature.

Arjuna asks Krihsna a question and receives an answer from him. The individual asks the higher self a question and receives an answer. I ask the Book of Life a question and receive an answer. The Book of Life is God's record keeping and from there I can receive all answers.

So our quotation starts with Arjuna wanting to know if one gets wisdom

1) by listening to a teacher

2) or by searching scripture

3) or is it knowledge one can receive from those who have experience.

And Krishna says that these three help to get wise but the only real thing is to get self-experience. Only when we gain knowledge from personal experience will we get wise. The knowledge that we ourselves experience will set us free.

Then the Krishna explains the Oneness of all things, the Oneness that is God. Only people who understand this Oneness will find liberation. The person who wants this liberation has to accomplish some simple disciplines. He has to get rid of the attachment to the body.

Now here Arjune interjects and expresses his doubt that such a spiritual discipline - detachment from the body - is a thing that can be easily achieved - that is so simple as Krishna claims it is.

Krishna replies by speaking of the need to have faith:

"No one will get faith as soon as one hears of it. One must delve into it with the help of reason; then it will be found that this discipline is not as hard as it is imagined to be."

The way to obtain faith is a practical way. We will get it with the help of reason. We will employ intellect and knowledge and this will let us grow in faith. Faith is not something silly people do and have. It is something intelligent people strive for and obtain by watching the little and also the bigger happenings and events in life and by comparing them to the rules of life written down since aeons. It is combining practice with theory.

And when we go this way then it is not a difficult way, it is not as hard as Arjuna imagines it to be.

And then Krishna says that to achieve detachment, to become completely detached, we do not have to do strange things, but only one thing. And then he reveals the secret of liberation. The secret is to do all acts as dedicated to the Lord, without desire.

When we do all acts as dedicated to the lord, and do this without desire, then we get liberated.

Now this is a beautiful description of a very important basic rule of life, of a rule that leads us to real freedom. It is to be led by the spirit.

For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God. Romans 8:14.

Now I want to show you an even better known Scripture that speaks of this secret of liberation. It is from the Old Testament and is one of the best known verses of the Bible. It is Psalm 23:1.

The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want.

What does it mean to have no desire? It means that I do not want anything. Why do I not want anything? Because I have got everything. Everything is mine.

This is the case when the Lord is my shepherd, when I am led by the Spirit of God, when I do all acts as dedicated to the Lord.

When I do this then God will look after me.

So here we have a very nice example where the teachings of India and the teachings coming from Israel are very much in agreement. All spiritual people are in agreement, they all have the truth. They have no reason to fight. When fighting comes up, then it is always an indication that the people involved are not spiritual but carnal - religious.

"Whoever among devotees dedicates all acts to Me with no other thought, whoever meditates on Me, serves Me, worships Me, remembers Me, knows that I am always with him, ever providing for him in this world and the next. I bear the burden of his Yogakshema [Welfare, well-being, happiness]."

When I seek God then God will always be with me, and he will provide for me, now and also in the hereafter.

Jesus declares it this way (Matthew 6:33): But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.

This is the key scripture to use when we want to understand the difference between real servants of God and servants that say that they are serving God but are only religious people in the system of Orthodoxy - the system of anti-Christ. Such people who do not really understand this verse, and who especially do not practise it, are really not believers at all; they are unbelievers. They do not believe that God will look after them. They believe that they have to get money for the work they are doing for God, because otherwise, they think, they would have no means to survive. And this is only part of their negative attitude. The second aspect of their attitude is that they are not really detached from the things of this world. They are very much in need, in need of all kinds of worldly things and instead of living a simple life they very much want to revel in the things of the world. They say that the Lord is their shepherd and that they do not want, but that is only an empty religious statement of theirs; in reality they have plenty of wants and they want all kinds of things, things that only keep them away from the kingdom.

When we seek the kingdom of God first, then all these things shall be added unto us.

Jesus explains in Matthew 6:31 what these things are. They are the things we eat and the things we drink and the things with which we are clothed.

Therefore take no thought, saying, What shall we eat? or, What shall we drink? or, Wherewithal shall we be clothes?

The Gentiles seek these things. We do not seek these things. We seek the kingdom, and that is where we are now and that is also where we are going - the spiritual world. The Gentiles seek all these things and that is where they are now and that is also where they are going: the world of matter. They are bound to matter - now - and when their soul leaves their body, then they are staying earthbound and can't advance to the light.

If people say they are Christians but seek the earthly things then they are not really Christians, they are Gentiles.

Let us read Matthew 6:32.

For after all these things do the Gentiles seek: for your heavenly Father knoweth that ye have need of all these things.

If we read verse 22 of chapter 9 of the Gita, and may be look at different translations of it, and when we then have a look at Matthew 6:33, then we will find that they both say the same thing. If we seek spiritual things then the bodily things will be provided.

Sai Baba then goes into many details how this principle must be followed in practice.

It is always this aspect of practicality that we have to recognize when we want to evaluate a person and his teachings.

I will only really convince somebody if the thing that I am teaching comes out of practical experiences and not from theoretical knowledge alone.

So when someone turns to God then God will look after him.

And in order to really impress this message, Sai Baba tells the story of the pundit.

The quintessence of this story is that one must really believe that God will provide everything and not run around and try to make money out of the knowledge of God and sell it. And if someone tries to make money out of it then this just proves that he has not understood what he is trying to teach.

Sai Baba says, the Gita will only then be understood when its content is practised. As long as it is not practised, even the most learned will not grasp the meaning. So if someone wants money he is false prophet and we will not really learn much from such a man.

The pundit in the story only grasped the Gita when he stopped trying to earn a living from expounding it and started to relax and believe.

Now the wife of this pundit makes an important statement:

"If you had only understood what lord Krishna has declared in this sloka, the urge to go to this Maharaja would not have arisen! If He is worshipped without any other thought, if one but surrenders to Him, if at all times the mind is fixed on him, then the Lord has declared in this sloka that He would provide everything for the devotee. You have not done these three; you approach the Maharaja, believing that he would provide everything! That is where you have gone against the meaning of the verse. That is the reason why he did not accept your explanation."

The verse his wife is referring to is this verse 22 in chapter 9 of the Bhagavad-Gita.

So his wife mentions three points:

1. Worship the God without any other thought.

2. Surrender but to him.

3. Fix at all times the mind on him.

This means to get worldly things out of the mind. Practice the presence of the Lord. Be led by the spirit. Seek the kingdom. Lead every thought into the obedience of Christ.

Once upon a time there was a couple that lived happily and a good life. They had no need, everything was provided for them. They lived with God and everything that God had made was very good. They ate the fruit from the trees that the Lord had made to grow out of the ground. They lived and walked with God; they practised his presence and kept his law. They lived as if they were in paradise. It was like the garden of Eden. Then one day the wife came home with a television set and they both started to look at the things of the world, at the news and at everything this machine showed them. And so the eyes of both of them were opened. God then told them to throw the TV set away. But they did not, they now knew better. They also were afraid, something quite new to them. And they also started to quarrel between themselves. She started to bring forth children in sorrow, and her desire started to be for her husband and he started to rule over her. And he started to eat of the fruit of the trees in sorrow all the days of his life. And in the sweat of his face he started to eat bread, till he returned unto the ground, for out of it he was taken. Life became a misery for them. They wrote their experience down and it became a best seller. Everybody read it. But hardly anybody seemed to practise the lesson taught in it. They all suffered the same as this couple had suffered, but they just carried on and did nothing about it. Even the priests who taught this story did not grasp the content and they did not cause the people and themselves to turn around and start again to live as if they were in the garden of Eden. They did not throw their TV away and they did not walk with God and did not keep his word.

It is a way of life. Only spiritual matters matter. Everything else becomes unimportant.

May be it is easier to explain this way of life when we realize what it is not. It is not to build a house, not to earn titles, not to gather wealth, not to be busy with reproduction - getting married and having children, not to appropriate land and estates, not to climb the social ladder, not to have ample transport devices, not trying to become famous.

After the pundit accepted this advice from his wife and lived accordingly he could convince the Maharaja - not before.

He said, "My Krishna will provide me with everything."

He had arrived.

Philippians 4:19.

"But my God shall supply all my need according to his riches in glory by Christ Jesus."

This verse only works when we believe in it. Just knowing about it and just teaching and proclaiming it will not do.

At great length then Sai Baba chides the religious guys who make money out of scripture teaching, without living what they teach.

But before that he stressed the real main point of his story and that is that to proclaim spiritual things one has to first have gained experience with these things one tries to explain. Everything else is just glitter and show.

He says, "Thus, the king taught the pundit that any propagation of spiritual matters which does not come out of the crucible of experience is mere glitter and show."

"If indeed they have reverence for the words of the Lord, the contents of the book, they would have striven to put them into practice, is it not? No; they do not strive, they have no iota of experience. If they have the experience, none of them would barter the spread of that experience for money."

It is the experience.

"If they have the experience, none of them would barter the spread of that experience for money."

Go to their websites and see if they barter the spread of that experience for money.

Sai Baba says that the people are not doing this; they are not going to the websites to check out:

"Those who listen to the expositions of these Pracharaks are also failing to question their bona fides; they do not care to examine whether the persons who extol the Geetha to the skies have tasted the sweetness of its teachings."

Don't fail to question their bona fides.

In Luke 16:13-14 we find this:

"No servant can serve two masters: for either he will hate the one, and love the other; or else he will hold to the one, and despise the other. Ye cannot serve God and mammon."

And the Pharisees also, who were covetous, heard all these things: and they derided him.

The religious people, who love money, hear such as this and they will sneer at them that rebuke them.

Watch out for such situations. Talk about the monetary side of the ministry and you will find that the hypocrites scoff at you, mock you, ridicule you. The best way to handle them is to quote Luke 16:13-14. May be verse 15 as well:

And he said unto them, Ye are they which justify yourselves before men; but God knoweth your hearts: for that which is highly esteemed among men is abomination in the sight of God.

It is an abomination in the sight of God and this abomination in their hearts is known to God because it is in the Book of Life - and it will be revealed.

But the original thing is that they do not believe. And this not believing in God providing for them is just one aspect of their unbelief. Their unbelief extends to all aspects of their lives. And it always shows when they are confronted with a new believer who has just experienced the power of the Lord and testifies to this power and explains it by quoting scripture. They will immediately find plenty of reasons to belittle scripture. They will say, that that part of the Bible was only added later to the original text, or that these kind of miracles only happened at the time of Jesus and the apostles. There unbelief will come out of them the moment they are confronted by the work of God and the Holy Spirit.

The people in the East, in India, seem to have the same problem as the people in the West. They listen to the teachers of the Bhagavad Gita but they fail to question the teachers credibility. And in the West people fail to observe Jesus' warning to watch out, to beware of the false prophets, which come to us sheep's clothing, but inwardly they are ravening wolves.

Sai Baba says:

"Words and deeds are far apart; they exhort others but those who are exhorted find that the teachers do not themselves follow the lesson! No, not even one in a million."

Not one in a million, says Sai Baba. So the situation in India seems to be not different from the situation elsewhere.

Then Sai Baba makes an interesting statement.

"The 10th verse of the 6th chapter of the Geetha declares that "Parigraha" [accepting help from others] is a great sin."

The Bible says trusting in man is a sin, and he says that asking help from others is a sin. He calls it "Parigraha."

Asking for help is the same as asking for money.

The Didache says, "but if he ask for money, he is a false prophet."

So asking for any help, not just for money, makes one a false prophet.

Psalm 121:1-2:

I will lift up mine eyes unto the hills,
from whence cometh my help.
My help cometh from the Lord,
which made heaven and earth.

If my help cometh from the Lord that made heaven and earth then that help should be quite enough and there is no need to ask anybody else for help.

If I ask for other help then my faith in the Lord does not seem to be there.

I might accept money from people, under certain conditions and circumstances, and when the motivation and the attitude is right. But I do not ask for money. And the same applies to asking for help. I might accept help from others. But I do not ask help from others.

Notice the difference between accepting and asking.

I accept may be things or money, but I never ask for them. If somebody gives something to you then it is important if he gives out of his own wish to give or if he has been asked by you to give you something. If somebody wants to help me then that is acceptable, but I do not ask him to help me.

Then Sai Baba points out another interesting facet.

"The Geetha is a tasty dish, full of the sweet ingredients of Bhakthi [devotion to God], Jnana [wisdom], Vairagya [detachment, renunciation]. Eat it; drink it. One morsel is enough."

He says, that one morsel is enough.

A hungry man, he says, does not need to eat all the grain harvested, a handful if rice is enough. He does not have to drink the whole river empty; a cup of water is enough.

A spiritual hungry person does not have to consume the entire Gita. One verse is enough.

Isn't that what we have experienced often, that just one verse of the Bible was highly fulfilling?

It saturated our whole being.

It did this because it was not just heard or read but because it became also alive to us.

"The Geetha has to be used thus for self-realisation; that is the holy task for which it is designed. It is a great wrong to misuse it; all attempts to use it for fame and fortune, for titles and display, are but symptoms of egoism; they are acts of sacrilege."

So the problem with titles is the same as with us. In India the desire for titles, the seeking of fame, the craving for fortune, is the same as it is in Christianity. There seems to be no difference.

"Those who go about expounding the Geetha with the object of earning money are thereby keeping God afar. They may give various justifications for their behaviour, no doubt; but none who has real faith in the Geetha or who is a real adherent of its teaching can accept their explanations."

Those who go about expounding the Bible with the object of earning money are thereby keeping God afar. They may give various justifications for their behaviour, no doubt; but none who has real faith in the Bible or who is a real adherent of its teaching can accept their explanations.

It is all the same all over the world. In all places of the world the difference between the real spiritual way of life and the false way of religion seems to be identical.

"The welfare of the world can be promoted by the renovation of old temples and not by the creation of new ones. The installation of God in ancient days was done according to strict Sastraic [Sastra: holy scripture; sacred text; that which commands, orders, directs with authority] ritual and so the old temples are holier. The power radiating from them confers upon this land whatever little welfare it enjoys now."

When I was young India was considered the poorest place one could think of. And that seems to agree with Sai Baba's words: "this land whatever little welfare it enjoys now." Fortunately the situation in India seems to improve, so may be Sai Baba's influence bears fruit. Let us use this as an encouragement.

So this was our look at India and at something what Sai Baba says. Have a look at webpages related to his work and check them. Find out about this: "If they have the experience, none of them would barter the spread of that experience for money."

Our subject is "The Man-Made Church" and the main difference between the man-made church and the real church is that the real church and its members are led by the spirit - by the spirit of God - and the members of the man-made church are not. They are carnal. Now in this chapter we are concentrating on the information of everything as it is found in this book of remembrance, but we do it mainly to help us in this effort to learn more about the leading of the spirit. So let us continue with this.

The Book of Life is available. Everyone can have access to it. The problem is not that access to it is difficult, the problem is that most people do not want access: they are not asking, they are not seeking, they are not knocking.

Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you; for every one that asketh receiveth; and he that seeketh findeth; and to him that knocketh it shall be opened. Matthew 7:7-8.

This is a very clear statement. The info is available. It is up to us to get it.

People will hardly give you info when it is not requested. You have to do something about it. It is the same with doing something about the devil. You can pray and plead that somebody - God or anybody else - will do something about the devil. The Bible very clearly states that it is you that has to do something about the devil, not somebody else. "Resist the devil, and he will flee from you." James 4:7. You, yourself, is the one who has to do the resisting.

One has to understand this verse in order to understand the Old Testament. All the bloody stories there about all the many people getting killed are stories to tell you to do the fighting inside yourself. Fight all the bad things inside yourself. Let the good character traits stand up against the bad ones. When they resist the bad ones, the bad ones will flee. And God will help you. But the initiative must come from you. It must start with your effort.

So resist the devil, and also seek info. Do it yourself. DIY.

It is the same with the student who is ready. When he is not ready, nothing will happen. When he is ready the teacher will appear.

Let us read the second chapter of Daniel to see how this getting access to the book of life works.

And in the second year of the reign of Nebuchadnezzar Nebuchadnezzar dreamed dreams, wherewith his spirit was troubled, and his sleep brake from him. Then the king commanded to call the magicians, and the astrologers, and the sorcerers, and the Chaldeans, for to shew the king his dreams. So they came and stood before the king. And the king said unto them, I have dreamed a dream, and my spirit was troubled to know the dream. Then spake the Chaldeans to the king in Syriack, O king, live for ever: tell thy servants the dream, and we will shew the interpretation. The king answered and said to the Chaldeans, The thing is gone from me: if ye will not make known unto me the dream, with the interpretation thereof, ye shall be cut in pieces, and your houses shall be made a dunghill. But if ye shew the dream, and the interpretation thereof, ye shall receive of me gifts and rewards and great honour: therefore shew me the dream, and the interpretation thereof. They answered again and said, Let the king tell his servants the dream, and we will shew the interpretation of it. The king answered and said, I know of certainty that ye would gain the time, because ye see the thing is gone from me. But if ye will not make known unto me the dream, there is but one decree for you: for ye have prepared lying and corrupt words to speak before me, till the time be changed: therefore tell me the dream, and I shall know that ye can shew me the interpretation thereof. The Chaldeans answered before the king, and said, There is not a man upon the earth that can shew the king’s matter: therefore there is no king, lord, nor ruler, that asked such things at any magician, or astrologer, or Chaldean. And it is a rare thing that the king requireth, and there is none other that can shew it before the king, except the gods, whose dwelling is not with flesh. For this cause the king was angry and very furious, and commanded to destroy all the wise men of Babylon. And the decree went forth that the wise men should be slain; and they sought Daniel and his fellows to be slain.

Then Daniel answered with counsel and wisdom to Arioch the captain of the king’s guard, which was gone forth to slay the wise men of Babylon: He answered and said to Arioch the king’s captain, Why is the decree so hasty from the king? Then Arioch made the thing known to Daniel. Then Daniel went in, and desired of the king that he would give him time, and that he would shew the king the interpretation. Then Daniel went to his house, and made the thing known to Hananiah, Mishael, and Azariah, his companions: That they would desire mercies of the God of heaven concerning this secret; that Daniel and his fellows should not perish with the rest of the wise men of Babylon. Then was the secret revealed unto Daniel in a night vision. Then Daniel blessed the God of heaven. Daniel answered and said, Blessed be the name of God for ever and ever: for wisdom and might are his: And he changeth the times and the seasons: he removeth kings, and setteth up kings: he giveth wisdom unto the wise, and knowledge to them that know understanding: He revealeth the deep and secret things: he knoweth what is in the darkness, and the light dwelleth with him. I thank thee, and praise thee, O thou God of my fathers, who hast given me wisdom and might, and hast made known unto me now what we desired of thee: for thou hast now made known unto us the king’s matter.

Therefore Daniel went in unto Arioch, whom the king had ordained to destroy the wise men of Babylon: he went and said thus unto him; Destroy not the wise men of Babylon: bring me in before the king, and I will shew unto the king the interpretation. Then Arioch brought in Daniel before the king in haste, and said thus unto him, I have found a man of the captives of Judah, that will make known unto the king the interpretation. The king answered and said to Daniel, whose name was Belteshazzar, Art thou able to make known unto me the dream which I have seen, and the interpretation thereof? Daniel answered in the presence of the king, and said, The secret which the king hath demanded cannot the wise men, the astrologers, the magicians, the soothsayers, shew unto the king; But there is a God in heaven that revealeth secrets, and maketh known to the king Nebuchadnezzar what shall be in the latter days. Thy dream, and the visions of thy head upon thy bed, are these; As for thee, O king, thy thoughts came into thy mind upon thy bed, what should come to pass hereafter: and he that revealeth secrets maketh known to thee what shall come to pass. But as for me, this secret is not revealed to me for any wisdom that I have more than any living, but for their sakes that shall make known the interpretation to the king, and that thou mightest know the thoughts of thy heart.

Thou, O king, sawest, and behold a great image. This great image, whose brightness was excellent, stood before thee; and the form thereof was terrible. This image’s head was of fine gold, his breast and his arms of silver, his belly and his thighs of brass, His legs of iron, his feet part of iron and part of clay. Thou sawest till that a stone was cut out without hands, which smote the image upon his feet that were of iron and clay, and brake them to pieces. Then was the iron, the clay, the brass, the silver, and the gold, broken to pieces together, and became like the chaff of the summer threshingfloors; and the wind carried them away, that no place was found for them: and the stone that smote the image became a great mountain, and filled the whole earth. This is the dream; and we will tell the interpretation thereof before the king. Thou, O king, art a king of kings: for the God of heaven hath given thee a kingdom, power, and strength, and glory. And wheresoever the children of men dwell, the beasts of the field and the fowls of the heaven hath he given into thine hand, and hath made thee ruler over them all. Thou art this head of gold. And after thee shall arise another kingdom inferior to thee, and another third kingdom of brass, which shall bear rule over all the earth. And the fourth kingdom shall be strong as iron: forasmuch as iron breaketh in pieces and subdueth all things: and as iron that breaketh all these, shall it break in pieces and bruise. And whereas thou sawest the feet and toes, part of potters’ clay, and part of iron, the kingdom shall be divided; but there shall be in it of the strength of the iron, forasmuch as thou sawest the iron mixed with miry clay. And as the toes of the feet were part of iron, and part of clay, so the kingdom shall be partly strong, and partly broken. And whereas thou sawest iron mixed with miry clay, they shall mingle themselves with the seed of men: but they shall not cleave one to another, even as iron is not mixed with clay. And in the days of these kings shall the God of heaven set up a kingdom, which shall never be destroyed: and the kingdom shall not be left to other people, but it shall break in pieces and consume all these kingdoms, and it shall stand for ever. Forasmuch as thou sawest that the stone was cut out of the mountain without hands, and that it brake in pieces the iron, the brass, the clay, the silver, and the gold; the great God hath made known to the king what shall come to pass hereafter: and the dream is certain, and the interpretation thereof sure.

Then the king Nebuchadnezzar fell upon his face, and worshipped Daniel, and commanded that they should offer an oblation and sweet odours unto him. The king answered unto Daniel, and said, Of a truth it is, that your God is a God of gods, and a Lord of kings, and a revealer of secrets, seeing thou couldest reveal this secret. Then the king made Daniel a great man, and gave him many great gifts, and made him ruler over the whole province of Babylon, and chief of the governors over all the wise men of Babylon. Then Daniel requested of the king, and he set Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, over the affairs of the province of Babylon: but Daniel sat in the gate of the king.

When people go to a sangoma then they expect the sangoma to reveal to them why they came, what their problem is, and when then the sangoma can do this, can gain access to the Book of Life and fetch the relevant information from there and reveal this to the seeker, then the seeker is convinced that the sangoma has spiritual powers and he will also accept the cure or solution to his problem and will act accordingly and have what he wants. Nebuchadnezzar seems to have had the same attitude. Only when the magicians and sorcerers were able to tell him what the content of his dream was would he accept the interpretation they would give him. Otherwise he would not believe them. He would doubt their abilities.

Now we have to see what Daniel did to get access to the Book of Life and get the information the King wanted. Daniel went to his house and made the thing known to his companions. He took the problem to his church. His church met in a house, in his house. In his church were - among others - four men, himself and his three companions, who were experienced in spiritual things. The people with whom he came together to solve spiritual problems where his three companions. These three companions were mighty warriors. Just read the next chapter, Daniel chapter 3. They were the famous Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego who were thrown into the fiery furnace and escaped.

Compare this to Acts 13 verse 1 where we find the description how Barnabas and Saul were sent by the Holy Ghost on the first missionary trip. There in Antioch were 5 men, in Babylon they were four; they are called there prophets and teachers. They were part of the local church that was at Antioch. So when we want to achieve some spiritual goal it might be good idea to come together with other members of the church who have proven that they are led by the spirit or are known as operating in the gifts or are known to be able teachers.

These are people who have much experience in being used by God. They are people who have spent much time reading and studying and are therefore able to teach or they are people who have practised during church services how to be used in the gifts of the spirit and became more and more experienced in this and people started to rely on their advice and their utterances and prophecies.

There is a tip in the book of Daniel in chapter 1 that gives us some idea what one could do to help to become such a spiritual person.

Let us read Daniel 1:12, "Prove thy servants, I beseech thee, ten days; and let them give us pulse to eat, and water to drink." Pulse is the edible seeds of various leguminous plants, e.g. chickpeas, lentils, beans, etc. or the plant or plants producing this. So they were eating fruit and were drinking water. May be that is the diet we should go for.

Genesis 1:29 looks similar, "And God said, Behold, I have given you every herb bearing seed, which is upon the face of all the earth, and every tree, in the which is the fruit of a tree yielding seed; to you it shall be for meat."

And then we read the next verse, verse 30, "And to every beast of the earth, and to every fowl of the air, and to every thing that creepeth upon the earth, wherein there is life, I have given every green herb for meat: and it was so."

Comparing these two verses we get the impression that fruits are for men and vegetables are for animals.

Verse 29 speaks of seed and fruit. And that is for men. Verse 30 mentions herbs as being given to animals, and that are plants - vegetables. The difference is that fruits are more alive. A plant starts to die immediately when it is pulled out or cut off. It starts to wither. One actually can photograph the life body of leaves; and leaves that were cut earlier have much less brilliance than leaves that are fresh. A Fruit does not start to die immediately. It remains much more alive, especially because it is or it contains the seed, the seed that gives birth to a new plant. A seed stays alive and does so for a long time. It actually contains the new life. It is life giving. Eating seeds - fruits - gives life - life in abundance. And it improves access to the Book of Life.

So it is fruits we should eat: fresh fruit, dried fruit. Preserved and tinned fruit and fruit juices and cooked fruit are already less recommendable. They do not anymore contain all its original life force. The best container for fruit juice is the fruit itself. When the fruit juice gets separated from the fruit, then life starts to escape. And then there is honey, nuts, grain, corn. All this is fruit, and the fresher we consume it, the better it is. And then there are all kinds of seeds.

So to eat fruit and to drink water will help to become a person that gains access to the Book of Life - like Daniel did.

Daniel was not a conformist, he dared to be different. He did not eat what everybody else ate. He ate what he believed was the right stuff for him. He was a non-conformist.

Daniel suggested to his three friends that they should follow the advice that Jesus gives: Ask, seek and knock.

Then Daniel went to his house, and made the thing known to Hananiah, Mishael, and Azariah, his companions: That they would desire mercies of the God of heaven concerning this secret; that Daniel and his fellows should not perish with the rest of the wise men of Babylon. Daniel 2:17-18.

They turned to God. They asked, sought and knocked.

And immediately after that there is a short sentence:

"Then was the secret revealed unto Daniel in a night vision." Daniel 2:19 first sentence.

So there is only half a verse describing the getting of the info.

They did what Jesus said they should do and it worked. They received, they found and it was opened unto them.

And after this half a verse there follow four verses describing Daniel's reaction. What was his reaction to this revelation? It was the song of thanksgiving.

So let us spent plenty of time singing the song of thanksgiving. With this activity we will cover much of the requirements.

And don't forget another reason for giving thanks: Retroactive strengthening of the past. Daniel strengthened the event of the secret being revealed to him by singing the song of thanksgiving, by retroactively strengthening of the past. This prayer of thanksgiving therefore very much helped to cause the revelation of the secret being revealed unto Daniel in a night vision. It was prayed after the vision, but it immensely helped to cause it.

So if you don't know what to do, start blessing the God of heaven, and sing this song:

Blessed be the name of God for ever and ever:
for wisdom and might are his:
And he changeth the times and the seasons:
he removeth kings, and setteth up kings:
he giveth wisdom unto the wise,
and knowledge to them that know understanding:
He revealeth the deep and secret things:
he knoweth what is in the darkness,
and the light dwelleth with him.
I thank thee, and praise thee,
O thou God of my fathers,
who hast given me wisdom and might,
and hast made known unto me now what we desired of thee:
for thou hast now made known unto us the king’s matter.

He revealeth the deep and secret things.

All the information is there. And God will reveal it to us. We just have to do the asking.

The secret which the king hath demanded cannot the wise men, the astrologers, the magicians, the soothsayers, shew unto the king; But there is a God in heaven that revealeth secrets, and maketh known to the king Nebuchadnezzar what shall be in the latter days. Daniel 2:27-28.

The wise men, the astrologers, the magicians, the soothsayers, are not the answer. They don't know. We will always have a big advantage over these guys. They will not have access to the Book of Life. But we have. Just be led by the spirit. By the spirit of the God of heaven.

So never fear these guys. Occultism, magic, black or white, esotericism, New Age, sorcery, witchcraft, astrology - all this can't really get to the source. Soothsayers, forecasters, fortune tellers, crystal-gazers, palmists, geomancers, witches, hexers, they all are quite handicapped.

If you need some more backup go and read about Moses and the wise men and sorcerers, and the Egyptian magicians. Or about Elijah and the prophets of Baal. Or about Peter and Simon the Sorcerer who bewitched the people of Samaria. Or about Paul and the Jewish sorcerer, a false prophet, whose name was Barjesus or Elymas.

We with God on our side we are unbeatable.

The bad guys simply do not have access to the Book of Life.

Then they that feared the Lord spake often one to another: and the Lord hearkened, and heard it, and a book of remembrance was written before him for them that feared the Lord, and that thought upon his name. Malachi 3:16.

The book of remembrance was written for them that feared God, not for the ungodly. It was written for them that thought upon God's name. Not for the ones who don't know his name.

It was written for them that spoke often one to another - for them that feared the Lord and often spoke one to another. People who do this are the believers that come together and practise real church life. They speak one to another. They don't sit there and hear on guy - a pastor - preach, and they themselves say nothing. No, they are people who are living stones in a building that is alive, God's real church.

The king answered unto Daniel, and said, Of a truth it is, that your God is a God of gods, and a Lord of kings, and a revealer of secrets, seeing thou couldest reveal this secret. Daniel 2:47.

It is our God, he is a God of gods, and a Lord of kings, and a revealer of secrets: we can reveal secrets. He causes us to reveal secrets.

He is in control of the Book of Life.

And I saw the dead, small and great, stand before God; and the books were opened: and another book was opened, which is the book of life: and the dead were judged out of those things which were written in the books, according to their works. Revelation 20:12.

The judgement will be simple and straightforward. All evidence will be there. Open to all, also to the person being judged. There will be no need to gather evidence or to hide evidence. Even the judgement decision will be obvious as there is no ambiguity. It is all there and the persons can do the judging themselves, according to their works.

The moment we leave our body our soul is free from the connection to the body. The connection of the mind to all the different cells of the body and to the brain does not exist anymore and this freedom allows the mind to dramatically increase his capacity for awareness, for consciousness. The restrictions of time and of space are gone and the whole life can be seen as a whole in one moment. Everything is there, also the emotions of others, how they felt when we were hurting them. It suddenly all becomes available and obvious. There is nothing that prevents good judgement. We don't even need a judge. We can do it ourselves. Do it yourself. DIY.

All the works are neatly recorded. It is all there. And God and we have access to all this.

His kingdom of heaven is within us. We have it all. It is right inside of us.

And there inside is also the Book of Life. It is in us and we are in it.

And they are not in it and therefore have no access to it.

Let them be blotted out of the book of the living, and not be written with the righteous. Psalm 69:28.

It is the book of the living; not of the spiritual dead, the unrighteous.

And I intreat thee also, true yokefellow, help those women which laboured with me in the gospel, with Clement also, and with other my fellowlabourers, whose names are in the book of life. Philippians 4:3.

We are the true yokefellows, we who carry the easy yoke; the ones whose names are in the Book of Life.

He that overcometh, the same shall be clothed in white raiment; and I shall not blot out his name out of the book of life, but I will confess his name before my Father, and before his angels. Revelation 3:5.

We are the overcomers.

And all that dwell upon the earth shall worship him, whose names are not written in the book of life of the Lamb slain from the foundation of the world. Revelation 13:8.

We are not going to worship the beast. We will know what is going on. We will not be ignorant. We will know the ones whose names are written in book of life, the followers of the Lamb; and also the ones who worship the beast, the man-made church.

The beast that thou sawest was, and is not; and shall ascend out of the bottemless pit, and go into perdition: and they that dwell on the earth shall wonder, whose names were not written in the book of life from the foundation of the world, when they behold the beast that was, and is not, and yet is. Revelation 17:8.

We shall not wonder. The beast will not impress us. We will go up and they will go down - to perdition, to hell. They end up in the lake of fire:

And whosoever was not found written in the book of life was cast into the lake of fire. Revelation 20:15.

And there shall in no wise enter into it any thing that defiles, neither whatsoever worketh abomination, or maketh a lie: but they which are written in the Lamb's book of life. Revelation 21:27.

We will enter the New Jerusalem, not they.

And if any man shall take away from the words of the book of this prophecy, God shall take away his part out of the book of life, and out of the holy city, and from the things which are written in this book. Revelation 22:19.

We will not take away from the word of life - we will fulfil.

I once read a book about a Christian from China, who was persecuted for his activities as a Christian in China and escaped and was thereafter living in Germany. He escaped from the prison in China and after that he also escaped from the big prison that China was. When he was living in that prison and had to suffer much ill-treatment and torture, he was sometimes together with other prisoners, and some of them were also Christians. Now his contact with other Christian prisoners was a fellowship that was like church life - life in a real church. He was guided by the spirit of God to leave the prison, to escape. This was a thing that grew in him. And it became stronger. And God confirmed this guidance by causing another Christian prisoner to encourage him. First this other Christian hinted to him to escape. He planted that thought into him. Then he suggested escape and later he actually commanded him to escape. God not only worked on that Christian that was to escape but also on the other and even on the Christians outside prison. Outside prison Christians were informed by God of the escape and therefore knew of it in advance and prepared things to help him and find a hiding place. And when the right moment for action had arrived he got a strong message from reading the Bible, the words he read just leapt off the page and into his heart. And then this was followed by a vision while he was awake. And then this man focused his whole being on executing what God had commanded him to do. At this point of climax he actually got up and walked out. All the doors between him and the outside of the prison were, in different ways, opened for him and he just walked through them. The final door, the entrance gate to the prison was actually open and he just walked through it while the guards were watching. God just blinded their mind and sight. When he was outside he visited Christians he knew and when the search for him, after his escape was realized, was going on, he was not found. After some time a man gave him his passport as a gift and he used this passport to get out of the country. Before he left he was told by the spirit that at passport control he should not speak, he should not say a word. He should only speak when expressively so instructed by the spirit. At the passport control he did what he was told. The officer there looked at his passport and saw the face of an old man that looked completely different than his young face. He laughed and called his college who did the same, he also had a good laugh. And they let him pass. Later when he told his story in Europe a person got up and said that he worked for a company that supplied voice recognition equipment to China. He said that if he would have opened his mouth at passport control at the Chinese airport this equipment would have caused to recognize his voice and betray him and he would have been caught. The authorities had plenty of his voice recordings because they had seized many of the tapes of his preaching.

So to cut down on our speaking has advantages, especially to learn to say nothing in certain situations. To say nothing can sometimes help a lot, and sometimes it might be lifesaving. We should simply know that voice recognition systems are in existence and are in use. So maybe we start to simply practise to say nothing when we are at counters with computers and all kinds of equipment and when speaking is not really required. For example at a checkout point of a supermarket there is no real need to say anything. It is a good practising situation. At a bank counter it may be the same. When you pick up the phone there might be a voice recognition system operating on the other side, recognizing your voice or monitoring it for the use with a voice recognition system. So this is maybe another reason to reduce the use of the phone.

But the main point of this story is that the leading of the spirit is a thing that must not come as a surprise but might develop in a certain situation. We will be guided to a point when it becomes very clear what we have to do. It might be a development over some time. And we will then do it with a strong feeling of certainty and purpose and we will be unstoppable. This development of information that comes our way is coming via the information system of the Book of Life and the knowledge of the existence of the voice recognition system at the passport control counter of the airport is a detail that makes the workings of the Book of Life very tangible and easy to understand. The spirit knew of the existence of this equipment and acted accordingly: forbade the escapee to talk.

It is also a detail that demonstrates that in certain cases knowledge does not have to get recalled. We do not have to always first ask and seek and knock; when a situation requires the necessity to have certain info then this will simply come our way - especially when we keep on walking in the spirit.

At the end let me give you two examples that describe the leading of the spirit in a forceful but short way. The first example is positive and the second negative. I put the negative one at the end because it is often easier to learn from a negative example than from a positive one.

So here is the positive one.

And it came to pass in the month Nisan, in the twentieth year of Artaxerxes the king, that wine was before him: and I took up the wine, and gave it unto the king. Now I had not been beforetime sad in his presence. Wherefore the king said unto me, Why is thy countenance sad, seeing thou art not sick? this is nothing else but sorrow of heart. Then I was very sore afraid, And said unto the king, Let the king live for ever: why should not my countenance be sad, when the city, the place of my fathers’ sepulchres, lieth waste, and the gates thereof are consumed with fire? Then the king said unto me, For what dost thou make request? So I prayed to the God of heaven. And I said unto the king, If it please the king, and if thy servant have found favour in thy sight, that thou wouldest send me unto Judah, unto the city of my fathers’ sepulchres, that I may build it. Nehemiah 2:1-5.

Nehemiah prayed to the God of heaven. He got an opportunity to request something, was actually asked what his request is, and did not just blurt out what he wanted, but he stopped and turned inward and made sure his higher self got involved. The Bible says he prayed. Instead of answering the king he started a prayer meeting. He met with the real self inside of him. He hesitated. He did not immediately do what seemed to be natural to do. The big moment had come that he could lay before the king his request and he delayed. He was led by the spirit. He got into touch with the Book of Life.

And now to the negative example.

They angered the Lord by the waters of Meribah,
so that it went ill with Moses for their sakes:
Because they provoked the spirit of God,
so that Moses spake rash words with his lips.
Psalm 106:32-33.

Moses spoke rash words with his lips. When you are like Nehemiah, in a Situation where everything goes well, or when you are provoked and angry like Moses, then don't speak rash words with your lips. Don't speak without stopping to think. Have your mind and your sense organs under control. Don't let rash words come from your lips.

This is the practical use of the leading of the spirit.

Let us read Deuteronomy 32:48-52.

And the Lord spake unto Moses that selfsame day, saying, Get thee up into this mountain Abarim, unto mount Nebo, which is in the land of Moab, that is over against Jericho; and behold the land of Canaan, which I give unto the children of Israel for a possession: And die in the mount whither thou goest up, and be gathered unto thy people; as Aaron thy brother died in mount Hor, and was gathered unto his people: Because ye trespassed against me among the children of Israel at the waters of Meribah-Kadesh, in the wilderness of Zin; because ye sanctified me not in the midst of the children of Israel. Yet thou shalt see the land before thee; but thou shalt not go thither unto the land which I give the children of Israel.

So Moses spake rash words with his lips and therefore he was not allowed to enter the promised land and had to die.

So take courage from this. Moses was at the top of the range. He was the most powerful person of the Old Testament. His achievements are just out of this world. Aim for not letting come rash words out of your mouth but also know that such an ability to control the tongue is a requirement for the top brass. So if you fail here you are in good company.

For the first 80 years of his life Moses was a highly successful person. He was learned in all the wisdom of the Egyptians. And only at that age did his actual important life begin and he got 120 years old. He was a person of extreme courage. And he was, together with Elias, the only person that appeared in the Old and in the New Testament. So to be in the company of such a man is quite something.
