The reason for sickness

by Frank L. Preuss

This webpage contains the information so as it is listed in the webpage The cause of sickness, however with additional columns, which give the reasons why the sickness occurred.

This subject matter is discussed in detail in 7. Is suffering necessary?

This study help simply is a list of 82 cases from the Bible. The cases show us where sickness - probably the most important kind of suffering - comes from.

In this table of 82 cases we have listed in the first column the case number or item number. In column two the scripture reference is given. In column three the individual that has been made sick is recorded. In column four the kind of sicknesses is given. In the next column we have shown whom the Bible records as having caused the sickness - the person who makes sick. Now to make it easier for the eye to glance down this column and get an immediate overview of the majority of cases, we have used abbreviations in this last column: "G" stands for God, "A" stands for an angel of God and "M" stands for a man of God. In addition we have shown "A" and "M" in bold type to make it easier for the eye to see these few cases. When it is an angel of God or a man of God and the name is known, then we have given this name as well. When you look at the table you will see that the majority of cases have a "G" in that last column and this means that the Bible records God as cause of the sickness.

The sixth column says something about the reason for the sickness and gives the relevant scripture reference.

In the webpage The cause of sickness it was mainly about showing that sickness comes from God to demonstrate the false teaching which claims that sickness does not come from God. And in this webpage the reason for sickness is especially emphasized to show the student where sickness comes from and therefore to give him the possibility to recognize the basis and therefore to remove sickness.

And now follows the list:

I have done a very foolish thing." 2Sa 24:10 Keeping membership lists in churches, wanting to know the number of members, strengthens the ego of the clerics and their followers and give worldly governments the opportunity to persecute the church and also to abuse them for their purposes and to utilize the documents for the raising of armies. Local government offices for the registration of residents are based on such inventions of the clergy.

Isa 37:6 Listen! I am going to put a spirit in him so that when he hears a certain report, he will return to his own country, and there I will have him cut down with the sword.'" Isa 37:7
60 Isa 53:10 Jesus Christ crushed G Surely he took up our infirmities and carried our sorrows, yet we considered him stricken by God, smitten by him and afflicted. Isa 53:4 Yet it was the Lord's will to crush him and cause him to suffer, and though the Lord makes his life a guilt offering, he will see his offspring and prolong his days, and the will of the Lord will prosper in his hand. Isa 53:10

Zec 12:2-3 On that day I will strike every horse with panic and its rider with madness," declares the Lord. "I will keep a watchful eye over the house of Judah, but I will blind all the horses of the nations. Zec 12:4

65 Jn 9:1 man blind G As he went along, he saw a man blind from birth. His disciples asked him, "Rabbi, who sinned, this man or his parents, that he was born blind?" "Neither this man nor his parents sinned," said Jesus, "but this happened so that the work of God might be displayed in his life. 67 Jn 10:10 sheep destroyed thief The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full. Jn 10:10 I am the good shepherd who lays down his life for the sheep. The hired hand is not the shepherd who owns the sheep. So when he sees the wolf coming, he abandons the sheep and runs away. The wolf attacks the flock and scatters it. The man runs away because he is a hired hand and cares nothing for the sheep. Jn 10:11-13
68 Jn 11:4 Lazarus sickness G When he heard this, Jesus said, "This sickness will not end in death. No, it is for God's glory so that God's Son may be glorified through it." Jn 11:4 Jesus answered, "Are there not twelve hours of daylight? A man who walks by day will not stumble, for he sees by this world's light. It is when he walks by night that he stumbles, for he has no light." Jn 11:9-10
69 Jn 12:40 who would not believe in Jesus they cannot see with their eyes G He has blinded their eyes and deadened their hearts, so they can neither see with their eyes, nor understand with their hearts, nor turn - and I would heal them. Jn 12:40 Yet at the same time many even among the leaders believed in him. But because of the Pharisees they would not confess their faith for fear they would be put out of the synagogue; for they loved praise from men more than praise from God. Jn 12:42-43
70 Ac 9:8 Saul could see nothing G He fell to the ground and heard a voice say to him, "Saul, Saul, why do you persecute me?" Ac 9:4I too was convinced that I ought to do all that was possible to oppose the name of Jesus of Nazareth. And that is just what I did in Jerusalem. On the authority of the chief priests I put many of the saints in prison, and when they were put to death, I cast my vote against them. Many a time I went from one synagogue to another to have them punished, and I tried to force them to blaspheme. In my obsession against them, I even went to foreign cities to persecute them. Ac 26:9-11
71 Ac 12:23 King Herod eaten by worms E Immediately, because Herod did not give praise to God, an angel of the Lord struck him down, and he was eaten by worms and died. 72 Ac 13:11 Elymas blind M Paul But Elymas the sorcerer (for that is what his name means) opposed them and tried to turn the proconsul from the faith. The proconsul, an intelligent man, sent for Barnabas and Saul because he wanted to hear the word of God. Ac 13:6-7
73 Ac 14:19 Paul stoned crowd Then some Jews came from Antioch and Iconium and won the crowd over. They stoned Paul and dragged him outside the city, thinking he was dead. 74 Ac 22:11 Paul blinded G I persecuted the followers of this Way to their death, arresting both men and women and throwing them into prison, as also the high priest and all the council can testify. I even obtained letters from them to their brothers in Damascus, and went there to bring these people as prisoners to Jerusalem to be punished. Ac 22:4-5 I fell to the ground and heard a voice say to me, 'Saul! Saul! why do you persecute me?' Ac 22:7
75 1Co 5:5 immoral brother destruction of sinful nature M Paul It is actually reported that there is sexual immorality among you, and of a kind that does not occur even among pagans: A man has his father's wife. 1Co 5:1 And you are proud! Shouldn't you rather have been filled with grief and have put out of your fellowship the man who did this? 1Co 5:2
76 1Co 11:30 Christians not recognizing the body of the Lord weak and sick G For anyone who eats and drinks without recognizing the body of the Lord eats and drinks judgement on himself.1Co 11:29 In the first place, I hear that when you come together as a church, there are divisions among you, and to some extent I believe it. 1Co 11:18

A simple solution to get rid of a sickness is to break off the belonging to the denomination.

When one stops to be divider, one starts recognizing the body of the Lord, and gets healed.
77 2Co 4:4 unbelievers blinded mind god of this age And even if our gospel is veiled, it is veiled to those who are perishing. 2Co 4:3 Even to this day when Moses is read, a veil covers their hearts. 2 Co 3:15

79 Re 11:6 earth every kind of plague M 2 witnesses If anyone tries to harm them, fire comes from their mouths and devours their enemies. This is how anyone who wants to harm them must die. Re 11:5 But exclude the outer court; do not measure it, because it has been given to the Gentiles. They will trample on the holy city for 42 months. Re 11:2
80 Re 16:2 people who had the mark of the beast and worshiped his image painful sores E The first angel went and poured out his bowl on the land, and ugly and painful sores broke out on the people who had the mark of the beast and worshiped his image. Re 16,2 for they have shed the blood of your saints and prophets, and you have given them blood to drink as they deserve. Re 16:6
81 Re 16:9 people who refused to repent and glorify God seared by the intense heat E They were seared by the intense heat and they cursed the name of God, who had control over these plagues, but they refused to repent and glorify him.
